Ok y’all. While we haven’t finished the floor plan of this bathroom yet, we are getting VERY close. We’ve narrowed it down to option 1 (one shared outhouse with a partition) and option #2 (two smaller ones with a sink in between or a vanity across in front of the window). I have a strong feeling #2 is going to win out. Regardless, we think that the stained glass can be decided on, which will inform our tile colors/designs, which is next on our list. You all had a ton of opinions, which we loved, and we’ve narrowed it down even further.

As a reminder, this is likely what it’s going to look like and where the stained glass will be. Two vintage doors that have cutouts for alllll these different squares to be glass. We will paint the doors to match the buildings. We went shopping for stained glass at Bullseye in Portland, and you can see that post here. It was so inspiring.

The clear winners of the last post were Options B and D, but soooo many of you said you didn’t like the glass pattern flipped and instead wanted it mirrored or uniform.

I love both of these, honestly. So does Brian (although I wasn’t sure he even noticed a difference until I pointed it out).

Option E is option D, but with steel blue instead of that lighter blue (which was a commenter’s idea that we loved). We then applied it both mirrored and uniform. But I honestly LOVE symmetry way more than I want to admit (it seems like the predictable choice), but it calms my chaotic brain so much. So I was surprised that I didn’t think of that and really appreciated the idea.

It’s such a subtle difference – mirrored or uniform. I’ve been staring at these for so long that I have no idea why I prefer one over the other, but I do, but I could also be wrong. Keep reading.

Here are the same two, but within the building, in case that makes a difference to your eye.

Gretch played around with Option B and applied the changes in both mirrored and uniform. Once again, I prefer the uniform or identical versions. I think that light blue catches my eye too much and feels like the only thing that moves (in the mirrored version) whereas it feels more balanced in the uniform version, even though it still pops.

See what I mean? In “mirrored,” it feels accidental; in uniform, it feels right and balanced.

Another version of D, but this time “mirrored” and “uniform”. I still so love this one.

But again, It seems to me that they should match unless everything feels evenly peppered and balanced. The fact that the two main squares stay the same in mirrored but other colors in other boxes changed bothers me a bit. Not a ton, but a bit.

OOOOOOOHHHHH. I solidly LOVE both of these. I honestly don’t think I have a preference, and I know that I could design the bathroom tile around both of these (which obviously have a shared color palette). Which is why I’m going to need help…

In option H, it feels more tonal with less bold pops. Option I has the big red and the big light blue, which is not a bad thing!! Maybe it’s a better way to go?? I’d honestly be so happy with both of these.
A few suggested going with fewer colors overall and keeping a more mirrored pattern. Here’s what two of those options could look like…

This felt like a missed opportunity to keep the main panels the same. It almost felt like the person who laid it out didn’t realize that they were two separate frames. This is a hard no for me.

So I narrowed it down to my final four – two that look more random (although they aren’t – these are the original flipped/diagonal designs), and then two that are matching.

There is something I genuinely love about this random playfulness. Your eye just dances around, and it feels balanced, but unpredictable.

But having the two doors be uniform and identical is also so tempting to me! I fully mixed anything that was truly “mirrored,” but I like these identical doors. The “random” is more whimsical and playful, the uniform might read more classic. I honestly don’t think I’d regret either.
Y’all, I really think I might just go with what you think, should there be an overwhelming winner. I love all of them. Obviously, they all share the same colors; it’s just the configuration that is debatable.
**And no, we haven’t fully decided on the layout yet, but leaning hard to just have two separate outhouses for now. Seems like trying to plan for every future scenario might be impossible, so sacrifices and compromises will be made that make the most sense for our lives and current usage, while leaving some flexibility for changes. I’ll fill you in more when I have any definitive, I promise 🙂

As mama to 4 little boys, two separate stalls within one room is a dream scenario for a public space. I get to have privacy, and they get to use a urinal. It also means twice as many people can use the bathroom at once, making lines move faster.
Please, I know you have a million options, but on the red and blue ones (D on the first round), swap the amber panels with the green so the red and amber aren’t next to each other. Then you have the warm big panel surrounded by smaller cooler colours, and the cool big panel surrounded by smaller warmer colours. It’s throwing off all the options with the big red panel and I like them the best.
I love Option H! It feels the most Emily Henderson to me, with the predominant blues and greens and the smaller pops of red and amber. Gorgeous!
