The Link Up: Em’s Cute & Comfortable Mules, Mal’s Perfect Spring Maxi Skirt, And A Must-See Comedy Special

Happy Sunday, everyone. This coming Friday is going to be Gretch’s 3-year workaversary, and words cannot describe how unbelievably grateful we are to have her! She’s talented, kind, funny, and if you meet her, watch out because you will fall in love with her. So we love you, Gretch! Ok, onto this week’s links.

This week’s home tour might be the most whimsical yet elegant ski cabin we’ve ever laid our eyes on. The attention to detail, the mix of patterns that feels calm instead of overwhelming, the shapes! John Martine Studio did an unreal job. Hurry, go look at it now!

From Emily: I get a real high when I discover a been-around-forever brand that I didn’t know existed, but once on my body, I’m OBSESSED with. I ordered these mules because they looked cute and weren’t crazy expensive. I put them on and was like, “dang, these are super comfortable”. Every day, I opted for them. So when I went to shop for sandals for spring break (and life/shoots), I plugged in the brand to see if they made any other shoes, and lo and behold, they apparently specialize in what Emily Henderson’s feet want – pretty soft leather in comfortable profiles that are easy to wear with everything. I have since ordered a couple of pairs to try on and show you (slides and flip flops), but if the soles and the construction of my mules are any sort of indication, I fear I just found my “everyday” shoe brand. Most people are ok with slightly uncomfortable shoes. I am not. I wore Aerosoles at my wedding (true story), and while I can handle heels for a night out with Brian, I’ve always worn Kork-Ease even when I was younger. So if you are like me and want highly comfortable shoes for all-day wear, check out this brand.

Also From Emily: Speaking of comfortable mules, for a more “dressed-up version,” I also love these burgundy leather pointed-toe mules. So, in case you are shopping this weekend, I have an Anthropologie code for you – EMILYH20 for 20% off. Enjoy!

This week’s Instagram highlights in case you missed them:

From Jess: I’ve decided that I want to start wearing halter tops again. I think the neckline is so pretty, you can usually wear a regular strapless bra or nipple covers if need be, and you can easily dress them up for a nice dinner or down for anything else. Last week I bought this one in black (one size up from my usual) for the Brandi Carlile concert (GO she her if you can! She’s so freaking talented). It’s double-lined, which I really like. Then I got this one for a day date by the beach in the light blue color in my usual size. It’s technically a workout top, but for me, I need more support than it offers for any type of workout I typically do:) However, I felt cute and confident in it for my date. 10/10. Did I mention they are both under $50! I love them both and know I am going to wear them all spring and summer long.

From Arlyn: It’s not often that four grown people sit around a 4-year-old opening gifts from her birthday party in literal awe of something she just unwrapped. When I tell you that myself, my husband, and two of our (adult) friends, gasped in surprise and delight looking at a Disney princess pop-up book, it is not an exaggeration. My girl was lucky enough to receive one of Matthew Reinhart’s creations, and if you’ve never seen his work, hold on to your seats. Each page has so many incredible elements, and even after two weeks of reading through it daily, we’re all still obsessed with it. This may have been a gift for a preschooler, but there are so many others appropriate for kids of all ages. They make incredible gifts (obviously), as long as you know what the receiver’s interests are. Even if you don’t have a need for something from Reinhart’s catalog, do yourself a favor and hit up your local bookstore to see if they have one to experience. I promise your jaw will have to be picked up!

From Gretchen: Recently, my mom came to visit for a girls’ weekend in Portland. Together, we wrapped up Traitors season 4 (such a good watch this year) and poked around town. We walked the bridges with friends, had the most delicious lunch at Shalom Y’all, and finished the day shopping at Cargo & Urbanite (two recs from our robust “shop small” post here). I came across the most delicious-smelling perfume at Urbanite and just had to take it home. It was Blomb’s cool girl packaging and the number 27 slapped across it that initially caught my eye, but the coconutty aroma forced me to take it to the register. It’s relatively affordable, has clean ingredients, and comes in a number of really good scents.

Congrats to Velinda Hellen Design (EHD Alum Velinda Hellen, Julie Rose, and Grace de Asis) on this incredible 8-page spread in House Beautiful that was shot by Sara Ligorria-Tramp and styled by Emily Bowser! Go buy the issue!!

From Marlee: I’ve linked these jeans up before, but they’re such an easy wear that I’m doing it again. I get so so so many compliments on them. They’re the Free People risk-taker mid-rise jean – if that sounds familiar, it’s because Em has them too and wore them in her denim roundup. They have a raw hem and super cute panel detail – I have them in the same wash as Em, the “Be Bold,” which is a true blue, but I just got them in a really nice cream. I wear SO much blue, so I’m trying to invest in more pants that are neutral colored so that I can rock my inventory of blue tops without stepping out of the house looking extremely monochromatic every day, ha. These jeans are true to size, I would say, and stretch out quite a bit after a couple of wears (but not in a bad way!).

From Mallory: I’ve been trying to wear “outfits” more regularly since I work from home, and getting dressed always makes me feel more pulled together – but it MUST be comfortable, or else I won’t wear it (I’m literally just sitting by myself, so why would I), but you guys, I found this skirt I am OBSESSED. It’s under $40 – smocked at the waist, lightweight, and so easy to wear. I paired it with a cropped white boxy tee, and I just absolutely love it.

From Caitlin: My all-time favorite comedian, Chris Fleming, just released a new HBO comedy special, and it is SOLID GOLD. (If you’re unfamiliar with Chris, you need to watch this classic clip from his breakout YouTube series – it’s about cleaning before company arrives, and I still quote it EVERY TIME I break out my vacuum. I need this place looking like Disney on Ice in ONE MINUTE!) The special was produced by Conan O’Brien (they have the best rapport), and if you also love NPR, acrobatics, and Trader Joe’s, it will be right up your alley. Den and I had the pleasure of catching Chris’s set last year as he workshopped the material (my only proof is a blurry photo of Chris’s legs, which feels apropos), and watching the finished product was a total joy. If you’d like to disassociate from the news for an hour and fifteen minutes, give it a whirl!

Thank you for stopping by, and we can’t wait to see you tomorrow. xx
