A couple of years ago good friends of ours were at the mountain house at asked “what astrological number is this house?”. I had never even heard of house numerology before but I’m one of those creatures that get so excited when there is a new way to talk about all our stuff. I love astrology, tarot, palm readings, mediums, psychics, enneagrams, Myers Briggs, crystals, auras, ghosts, spirit guides, color tests – ALL OF IT, without letting it really guide or dictate my future. To me, it’s just FUN that creates really great conversations (says the 7 enneagram/Virgo). Ok fine, I’m 100% in (some) mediums and have found the enneagram quite possibly the most useful personality tool in all of my interpersonal relationships, as well as helping me understand myself SO MUCH BETTER. But I’m less into astrology (possibly because I don’t act very Virgo-y – everyone who knows me immediately asks what my rising is, what time I was born, etc, because THAT’s how much it doesn’t track). That’s all to say I LOVE talking about it all. So we immediately did the math on the mountain house and realized it was a 7. “OF COURSE IT IS A 7” they both said. So after looking up what being a “7” house number means, I obviously wanted to find out the rest of the numbers in past, current and future homes and BOY DID IT TRACK. Now, before all you skeptics cast your doubt on it (understandably) why not just add it up and have some fun. Of course, it might be total BS, but it also might not. I generally have a sense of the universe and believe in cosmic energy, etc, so I’m more open to it, but even if you aren’t it’s fun to figure out what some other humans have written down about the number your address adds up to. Brian doesn’t believe in it AT ALL and yet, even he can have so much fun with it. Let’s take mine as an example:
My friends Annie and Derik recommended Kari Samuels as who they reference – go check her out here. But there are a lot of different websites out there, saying basically the same thing (I just like her writing). I quoted her site here for all of my numbers. And if you want to know how you add it up it goes like this: if your address is 1553, you add them all up (14, then add 1+4 = 5, since it only goes up 12). Kari explains it better. Now on to mine!
Los Feliz Rental = #5 (2011 – 2013)
What does 5 mean?: Kari Samuels: “If you love to socialize this is the place for you! 5 loves to party so there is never a dull moment. 5 is the most gregarious of all the numbers so this is a great place for people who love having people over and entertaining guests. There are always surprises with 5, so if you love excitement and adventure, you’ve found the right place. Perfect for those who love to travel, meet new people, try new things, and enjoy your freedom. If you want to break up your routine, get out of a rut, or just have fun, you’ve found the right home!“
ME: Oh indeed. We did party here and as you can see it was/is FUN. This was also when I had just finished shooting Secrets From a Stylist, had my first big partnerships which meant the blog was making money, and started hiring professional photographers for my projects. We had a lot of freedom at the time (freelance jobs, no kids) and tried lots of new things. I think this was when we had the most fun in LA, going out to dinner 2-3 times a week, big brunches on the weekends because none of our friends had kids yet.
Challenges for a 5: Kari Samuels: “If you’re looking for quiet, reflection, or stability, you won’t find it here. You might find this to be a temporary home rather than a permanent one. Because 5 promotes variety and change, you might find it difficult to make up your mind or focus on practical matters.“
SPOT ON. It did not feel like a quiet home and we certainly weren’t homebodies here. This was our early 30s when “making up your mind” is difficult anyway and you want a lot of variety/change.
Glendale = #3 (2013 – 2016)
What does 3 mean?: Kari Samuels: “This home is sure to have a cheerful, upbeat energy. 3 is a fun, vivacious number, so this is a wonderful place to have lively social gatherings. It is a highly creative vibration, so if you are wanting to start a family or an artistic endeavor, this would be a great place!“
SPOT ON!!!!!! We had social gatherings in every house, but this one felt light and indeed vivacious. Full of joy and easy fun. So many patio parties, far more casual gatherings, and of course we did start our family here.
What does 3 mean? (continued): Kari Samuels: “Feelings are openly expressed here, as well as unique, innovative ideas. This is a wonderful home best suited for artists, singles, couples or families, or anyone who loves to live life to the fullest and express themselves with joy.“
ME: I know that that could be almost anyone, but it does feel accurate. I remember feeling EXTREMELY happy here, rarely in a bad mood (Brian has a different recollection of this house TBH). I loved this house so much – besides not having a backyard and needing to climb 30 stairs to get to our front door (with two small kids) it was full of light and joy.
Challenges for a 3: Kari Samuels: “This energy can lend itself to you being scattered, unfocused, or spending too much money. You need to make sure you stay grounded and take time to focus on practical things. 3 energy can also tend to have self-doubt, so make sure you are nurturing positive feelings about yourself at all times.“
HMM. I don’t think I was particularly grounded here, and with two small kids, it certainly wasn’t practical. Brian would say that these years he was full of self-doubt so that tracks, too. It’s when he got into therapy which he wrote about here to possibly nurture positive feelings about himself?
Los Feliz = #9 (2016 – 2021)
What does 9 mean? Kari Samuels: “Everyone is welcome in a 9 home! 9 promotes feelings of love and acceptance. This is the number of universal love and compassion. Your intuition will be at an all-time high. You might find yourself receiving phone calls and visitors from people seeking your advice. People will be drawn to your home because of the loving energy there. 9 is an international number. You might feel the need to travel, or welcome visitors from other parts of the world.“
I joked all the time that we had the parent frat house. Everyone wanted to bring their kids over on the weekend and stay for hours – it was just so easy to parent and play here (so safe, lots of ways to watch kids without helicoptering). Yes to the feelings of love and acceptance (no to the traveling or necessarily having visitors from other parts of the world).
What does 9 mean? (continued): Kari Samuels: “You will find yourself conjuring memories and emotions from the past so you can have healing and forgiveness. Express feelings and creativity. Ultimately, you will learn a great deal about yourself and other people from living here. You will find many emotional rewards.“
Challenges for a 9: “This address is particularly suited to groups that promote the good of the whole such as dorms or schools, or people with an open heart and mind, but not as good for families who want a lot of alone time. 9 is an idealistic energy, and can be difficult if you are needing to make more money or become more ambitious.“
Mountain House = #7 (2016 – Current)
What does #7 mean: Kari Samuels: “If you are a mystic, writer, researcher, or spiritual seeker of any sort, you will love living here. 7 is a private vibration, and can be somewhat secretive. It inspires deep thought, reflection, and powerful insight. If you love to come home and have quiet time to read, reflect and restore, you will thrive here!“
ME: INDEED. I did thrive there, even before quarantine. This house felt like 100% an escape and the vibration was low and calm. It is where Brian and I both wrote every day, and I’ve never felt so grounded and centered. Yes. I miss it every single day.
What does #7 mean (continued): “To promote tranquility, water is a lovely element to add to this home, if you don’t already live near a body of water. You can have some thrilling spiritual and intellectual insights here, so it is a wonderful home to promote dramatic shifts in your consciousness.“
Challenges for a #7: If you like entertaining, or love to party, you can find yourself going a little stir-crazy. You might find it is too isolating or lonely at times. It is important that you eliminate any clutter in your environment as well as your thoughts to harmonize with your home’s energy.“
I thought I loved to party, but being up there in isolation over quarantine was amazing and I didn’t get stir crazy for ONE SECOND. So not sure how accurate that part is. But as far as uncluttered? For sure.
“Make sure to take good care of your roof and make all necessary repairs, since 7 homes are prone to roof damage – particularly if it is an address that adds up to 16, which is a karmic lesson number. Since 7s love to escape, you would want to avoid this address if you are prone to alcohol or drug addictions.
Farmhouse = #11 (2020 – Current)
What does 11 mean?: “11 is the Master Number of Intuition and Illumination. The number 11 shaped like two pillars, representing a gateway of new growth for you. When you live in an 11 home, you will be inspired with new ideas, creativity, and innovation. You will find many rich and rewarding opportunities, especially those that promote leadership and creativity.“
Ok this one made me nervous. I think for this stage of my life I’d rather have the most grounded number, but this sounds like a lot of really incredible things are going to happen here (which is exciting too, obviously). At the same time, it’s definitely been rewarding and certainly has inspired creativity.
What does 11 mean? (continued): “Since this is a number of light, you will want to design your home with beautiful airy decor. Keep it uncluttered, and decorate it with meaningful artifacts. 11 reduces to the number 2 (1+1 = 2) therefore this can promote harmony, provided that each person maintains their independence.“
DONE AND DONE. So much light we are calling it the Swiss Cheese house. And absolutely we are going minimal on clutter, keeping it as simple and calm as possible.
Challenges for a 11: “Because 11 is a master number, there are spiritual tests that you must go through. 11 is a number of partnership and can promote harmony ONLY if both people are aligned with their truth and maintain a strong sense of self. If you are codependent in any way, or give your power away, you will find yourself getting into relationship struggles.“
“This is to teach you to be interdependent in relationships, rather than co-dependent. Since you will be flooded with intuitive insights in this home, you want to make sure you EXPRESS your creativity, or else you might feel anxious or confused. You must act on your ideas, not just think about them.“
This part kinda scared me, but Brian and I are pretty interdependent, not co-dependent (I think), but we have talked about this a lot because of this “number” being our future. Also, I’ve done nothing BUT act on my ideas the last 20 years so that comes easy for me, but I kinda thought I was in a different stage now. Maybe not???
So go ahead add yours up and see if it tracks or no. If nothing else hopefully it’s good happy hour conversation tonight with friends. xx
