A Pink Breakfast Nook Of My Dreams (My Friend’s Makeover I’m Jealous Of…)

Apparently pink rooms are having a moment over here (my guest room, my brother’s guest room) and while technically this room was painted before I took over decorating I will happily take credit for how pretty it is. Nicole and Curtis, two of our best friends, chose Dead Salmon by Farrow & Ball for this super classic and beautiful dining nook. This room is so beautiful and was frankly pretty easy to furnish and decorate because they had a great start with that color, light fixture, and the black shelving.

This was the room before. The windows are just as beautiful but those brown walls and ceiling really weren’t their style.

It just wasn’t living to its full potential but I feel pretty confident in saying that now it is…

Wall Color | Door Color | Table | Dining Chair

See?! Ok, let’s get into some of the main pieces. The shape of the window lent itself to a large round pedestal table, but I didn’t want it to be white which was harder to find than predicted. I found this table randomly on Frontgate, and it’s 60″ with a pretty dark marble top and a lovely traditional base. There are a lot of trendier post-modern pedestal tables out there, and certainly mid-century styles but they didn’t feel right here (plus, we wanted to use these more modern chairs) so I love how the base is so classic and traditional. The chairs are from Soho Home and the color is perfect (it talks to the green in the more formal dining room) and the cut-out in the back is a really lovely detail.

Candlestick Holders | Taper Candles (similar) | Wood Salt and Pepper Shakers

Vase | Dinner Plate | Pink Bowl | Rounded Glass | Martini Glass | Flatware | Napkin

Because this room is small and pretty simple, design-wise, we decided to set the table to add some styling elements. I really love that vase (with green interiors) and used Crate & Barrel plates with Anthro bowls and World Market glasses to deck it out.

See how the two (well, three) spaces talk to each other? All have their own personalities but are definitely a part of the same family.

White Footed Bowl | Black Shelving (similar)

Nic and Curtis had this black shelf/cart already along this wall which totally works but we recently talked about adding more pantry space to the nearby kitchen (which they desperately need) and bringing in two deVOL-style cupboards here. I like this vignette, but I think a prettier piece with closed storage would work better. The photo art is one they’ve had for a long time which reminds them of when their girls were little on skateboards:) I mostly edited and curated what they already had there, making it look better (which is my favorite thing to do), and added that pretty footed bowl, and a live jasmine plant which we all became obsessed with.

Chandelier

The chandelier is so perfect in here – it holds the space so well, but it’s reflective and airy (not visually heavy) which keeps the room balanced.

I will never tire of this room and the only thing better than looking at the photos is being in here in person. Thanks, Nic and Curtis for making my job so easy. xx

And as a reminder, here’s a pretty great before and after:)

Beautiful room – painting the window trim made so much difference in how one views the room. It’s much more calming and less broken up than with the white windows.
Can they do non-glare glass on their photographs? For folks willing to spend mega bucks on furnishings, it seems like that would help them see their art better. In the pictures I mostly see the glare.

Non-glare glass isn’t sutiable for real artwork. Look for museum quality glass (combining UV protection, crystal clarity and superior strength).

Beautiful! Please teach us about color drenching: what to include (ceilings?), how to transition from non-color drenched rooms/hallways, which color tones are best, paint finishes, etc. Thanks!

I would also love to hear about this, including what to do with “trim” inside the window casing. I have white frames around the screens in my windows as well as additional molding inside the casings–all white. This has stopped me from color drenching as I’m afraid the white will stand out too much, especially with the darker color on the wall.

Who is the artist? Is it the same photographer as the big photo in the living room?

As an artist, I’d like to second the call for an artist shout out. It can be frustrating for us as artists to have our work purchased, then professionally photographed in beautiful spaces and we have absolutely no idea. A lovely courtesy to artists, that, I assure you means so much.
Also, the homeowners seem to have a great eye for original work, would be really lovely to see an “art tour” of the works in their home.

And even if pieces of furniture/decor used in a room are vintage or “already owned”, it would be lovely if you could tell us who made them or where they were originally purchased from. It would make searching for them in the secondary markets easier.

Did Max H do the paint and light fixture? They’re great!

My personal style is more transitional but this room and the adjoining living room are stunning!  The colors, color drenching, furniture and all the little details are amazing.  The epitome of cool!  I love it!  The vase on the dining table is so unique and beautiful!

The color story in this house is so pretty!!!! The dark moulding is so nice, calls back to the likely original dark wood color but modern

Cute top. Is that the Emerson Fry Isla Longsleeve Top in Midnight? Can you add a link/info for the pants and/or boots? I can’t ID them .

How did you change the white dividers in the windows?? That is so pretty. I have those in my windows, but unfortunately, they’re sandwiched in between the double panes so no way to modify. 🙁

These windows have simulated divided lites. Sounds like yours are grids between the glass and cannot be changed. However, you can buy overlays (check Etsy) to apply to the window that you could then paint or stain any color. Check out how Drew from Lone Fox Home changed his.

It actually looks like this house still has its original, true divided lite windows. I don’t want to be pedantic, but as an advocate for historic homes, I can’t pass up the chance to note the subtle but irreplaceable charm of original windows!

Love everything about this color palette, although I am old enough to remember when that brown with contrast white trim was fresh. But came here to say that Dead Salmon is one of a range of these kind of grungy/grey pinks that F&B makes. It’s worth getting a sample and trying it in your space because they vary so much based on the type and amount of natural light. I painted a very small bathroom using Stirabout by F&B and achieved a very similar look (oddly because I thought it would look less pink and more oatmeal). The dead Salmon just felt too grey in that application but it sings in this room with that huge window. Anyway, this whole house is swoony. Thanks for sharing it.

What a transformation! I love this. It’s so sophisticated. I’ve been over my white window trim for years now. This confirms that I should repaint it all. Please do another post on painted trim and painted fireplace surrounds, too. That would help so much in figuring out how to do it well. I also second the request to showcase the art in this home. This room is done so well. Can’t wait to see the other rooms.

This is so pretty. I too painted interior doors and their frame black, and it makes such a difference. Small change with major impact. Something to highlight for those of us who aren’t positioned to do a major reno but want to pull rooms together.

I love everything in this room. But the table, chairs and chandelier are a bit out of my budget. We need a look-for-less post. I think I can swing some of the accessories though!

I love how this idea brings together the best of both worlds—modern simplicity and traditional charm—all wrapped up in a burst of cheerful color! A breakfast nook should feel like a cozy little escape within your home, and this concept nails it. Think patterned cushions, a bold painted bench or vintage table paired with sleek lighting and modern artwork. It’s the kind of spot where you can sip your morning coffee and instantly feel energized.

Very beautiful! Does anyone know of any dupes on the chandelier at a lower price point? I’ve seen a zillion things sort of like it, but not exactly…
