22 Affordable Dining Tables That Only Look Expensive

As someone who was recently on the hunt for a new dining table (I sold my previous one before the move, and quickly regretted it after seeing prices these days), it’s actually shocking what they cost. Sure, simple designs in cheap materials can be had for a few hundred dollars at most of the big e-comm retailers. And, of course, there’s the secondhand market, which I strongly encourage anyone to explore before buying new. But if you’re after something a bit more unique without crossing over into a 4-figure price point that makes anyone who sees it assume it’s a high-end spend, you’re in luck today!

I scoured some of our favorite shopping sources as well as some new-to-me spots to dig up 22 expensive-looking but actually affordable dining tables. To be sure we could get in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, designs, and materials, I set the budget to $1,000, which isn’t nothing but is a very reasonable number in today’s market, considering it’s hard to find anything under $1,200 at most reputable retailers.

But first, I want to outline a few things, including what was on my mind when picking the tables to include in this post, as well as what you may have to sacrifice at a lower price point.

What kinds of details I look for:

  • An interesting shape or detailing, even if subtle
  • Rounded or softened edges
  • Timeless silhouettes, such as a trestle base
  • A unique finish such as marble (even if an engineered stone), burlwood veneer, or travertine
  • Extendable (this is commonly quite pricey, so finding a dining table that extends for under $1,000 is a big feat)
  • I tried very hard to pick tables constructed from at least some natural materials. They don’t all fit the bill, but many have some solid wood or wood veneer. A quick note on wood veneer: Large tables with a smooth, continuous surface (rather than a plank design) typically use a veneer top, even at higher price points, because it’s more practical. A single slab wide and long enough for a 90-inch table requires a rare tree, which makes solid tops of that size exceptionally expensive.

What you likely will not find at this price point:

  • Solid hardwoods such as oak or walnut. Typically, you’ll find pieces with wood bases and possibly tops that feature acacia or mango wood, which are more affordable materials since mango wood is a byproduct of the fruit industry (once the trees stop bearing fruit, they are cut down for lumber); and acacia trees grow fast and abundantly. You’ll also see rubberwood used, which is a byproduct of the latex industry, which makes it more affordable.
  • One-of-a-kind artisan designs
  • Extra-large sizes that seat 8 to 10+

Now, let’s go shopping!

Round Affordable Dining Tables Under $1,000

affordable dining tables

Brooke Round Dining Table, 42.7″ – $999

Let’s start with a fun pedestal table. I love the drama of the base’s varied bead-like shapes. Note that the leg is constructed using resin made to look like wood; it’s not a natural material, but at least it’s fairly durable. The one I linked above is around 43 inches in diameter, which seats four, but there’s also a smaller 33-inch version for a few hundred less.

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 47.2″ diam. x 29.5″H | Made from: Engineered wood with solid wood mindi edges, resin base

Left: Velora Round Faux Marble Dining Table With Wood Fluted Base – $490 | Right: Maddox Bistro Table – $889

Left table: Bistro tables are great for smaller homes or rooms. Like the powder room of the table world, they should say something in their more compact footprint. This one comes in at under $500 with a faux marble top and a solid wood fluted base, which I know is a fleeting trend, but as long as it’s not overdone anywhere else in the same space, it shouldn’t expire style-wise for a while.

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 42” diam. x 30”H | Made from: Faux marble top and a solid wood fluted base over manufactured wood

Left table: Though made of concrete (heads up, this one is HEAVY), it’s painted to look like travertine. You could use it in an indoor dining room or even a covered outdoor eating space. I like the slight taper at the top of the base, as well as the sloped edge of the tabletop. I could also see this as an entryway table or in the corner of a living space holding a cool lamp and some pretty decor or a smattering of framed family photos.

Seats: 2 to 4 | Dimensions: 35.4″ diam. x 29.5″H | Made from: Concrete with faux travertine finish

Barwell Round Dining Table (60″) – Cerused White (Open Box) – $840

This is such a good base! It’s actually a $1,400 table, but this exact one is open box, so if you’re okay with a few minor imperfections, you can grab it for 40% less. Honestly, if you have kids or a hard-working household, it’s going to end up looking a little dinged up soon enough anyway, right? My only qualm is that it’s unclear whether the table is 60 inches in diameter or 48 inches; the product name notes 60 inches, but the note dimensions state 48. It might be worth reaching out to their customer service to confirm either way.

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 48″ diam. x 30″H | Made from: Oak veneer over engineered wood top, solid ash and engineered wood legs, covered in a water-based cerused white finish

Left: Lisette Round Pedestal Base Dining Table – $745 | Right: Becki Owens x Livabliss Arista 42″ Dining Table – $988

Left table: A Tulip-style table is such a classic silhouette that will never get old, which makes it worth your dollar. You can find these in a simple black or white for a few hundred bucks, but I love the top-to-bottom walnut veneer of this Safavieh one for a little bit more. Note that there’s a $200 white-glove delivery upcharge, but that still makes it cheaper than the same table at other retailers offering “free” shipping (it’s $1,200 at Home Depot and $1,100 at Bed Bath & Beyond).

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 47.2″ diam. x 30.3″H | Made from: Undisclosed wood type and metal, walnut veneer

Right table: Here’s another winning pedestal table! This one is designed by Instagram design queen Becki Owens. I appreciate the tubing detailing of the base; it reminds me of something you’d find at Anthropologie but at half the price (plus, shipping is free, or at least, included in the price, ha).

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 42″ diam. x 30”H | Made from: Rubberwood and ash solid wood, and manufactured wood

47″ Solid Round Pedestal Kitchen Dining Table – $580

I love this thick gal! The cerusing (that greyish white color in the grain) adds some drama and pattern to the oak-like veneer; it’s a detail you don’t often find at this price point. There’s also a black version that’s pretty sleek, too.

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 47″ diam. x 30”H | Made from: Solid and manufactured wood (undisclosed type)

Left: Lola 45″ Round Black Concrete Dining Table – $799 | Right: Hikeem 52″ Solid Oak Round Pedestal Dining Table – $790

Left table: There aren’t many dining tables at CB2 under $1,000, but the black concrete Lola is discounted to come in just under $800. It’s an exclusive design by Barcelona design firm Mermelada Estudio, which is another thing you don’t often get at this price. If you need it in white, that one will run you $999.

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 45″ diam. x 31.5″H | Made from: Stone powder, cement, and natural fiber with black pigment

Right table: For those who prefer the edgy, modern touch of a black table but need seating for six, you’ll want to check out the 52-inch diameter Hikeem. I love that you can still see the wood grain through the soft satin black finish, and that the top is solid wood, though the listing isn’t totally clear on what kind (possibly oak based on some of the descriptions).

Seats: 6 | Dimensions: 52” diam. x 29.5”H | Made from: Solid wood top (undisclosed type), manufactured wood base

Square & Rectangle Affordable Dining Tables Under $1,000

Aqua Virgo 72″ Rectangular Dark Burl Wood Dining Table – $999

You can’t see it that well in the photo, but what makes this table worthy of this roundup is the burl wood veneer! It’s rich, dark brown and gorgeous! The arched leg frame is also special; it could have just been a top with four legs, but something even that subtle can make a big difference in how “expensive” something looks. Click through to see the up-close details of this one; it’s good.

Seats: 6 to 8 | Dimensions: 72″L x 36″W x 29.5″H | Made from: Mappa burl wood veneer over engineered wood

Left: Solid Wood Farmhouse Dining Table – $288 | Right: Solid Wood Trestle Dining Table – $730

Left table: Here are two trestle tables—a style I have long loved. I’m truly not sure how a solid wood table can sell today for $288. The product page doesn’t note the wood type, so I’m literally shrugging here. Is it a lie? I don’t know, but it’s worth a look for sure!

Seats: 6 to 8 | Dimensions: 70.87″L x 27.6″W x 29.5″H | Made from: Solid wood (undisclosed type)

Right table: While I do like the streamlined modern vibes of this trestle, I do want to use it as a caution not to trust a product name blindly. One glance at the description and materials list and you’ll see it’s not, in fact, only solid wood. The base itself is noted as being solid wood, with the top being engineered wood and veneer. Again, a solid wood table at this price is, well, not common.

Seats: | Dimensions: 70″W x 30.1″H x 31.5″L | Made from: Engineered wood and veneer top, solid wood trestle-style base

Left: Johansson 76″ Oak Dining Table – $690 | Right: Braddock Wood Sculptural Arched Base Dining Table – $900

Left table: I’m lumping these two tables together because they have similar rounded legs/bases. I’m actually stunned that this mentions it’s solid oak. A 76-inch table in solid OAK for under $700?!?!? WHAT? Grab it ASAP, people, before someone realizes their error.

Seats: 6 to 8 | Dimensions: 76”L x 40”W x 31”H | Made from: Solid oak

Right table: The arched H-shape of the base reminds me of Broyhill’s beloved Brasilia line, which is what put it on our list today. And at nearly 80 inches, it’s large enough to seat eight, all for $900. That’s a win in my design book, for sure.

Seats: 8 | Dimensions: 79″L x 40″W x 30″H | Made from: Solid rubberwood, engineered wood, and oak veneer

Left: Bennington Extendable Dining Table – $529 | Right: Ashen Dining Table – $699

Left table: On the surface, there isn’t really anything that special about this table, but I’m drawn to it. Maybe because of the price point of around $500, maybe because it’s solid rubberwood. I can say that I do like the chunky rounded legs that come up and out from the table top. It’s minor, but impactful.

Seats: 4 to 6 | Dimensions: (w/out leaf): 47.24”L x 31.49”W x 29.92”H, (w/ leaf): 62.99”L x 31.49”W x 29.92”H | Made from: Solid rubberwood

Right table: Here’s a similar style with rounded edges and girthy legs without the extension leaf. There aren’t many reviews, but all the ones that are available to read are 5-star, and the images attached make the table look even better than in the listing photos.

Seats: 4 to 6 | Dimensions: 70.9″L x 35.4″W x 29.9″H | Made from: Engineered wood tabletop with ash veneer and solid ash edging; engineered board leg with ash veneer

Left: Aava 53.9 ” Dining Table – $429 | Right: Wood Modern Farmhouse Dining Table Light Brown – $830

Left table: While I don’t love that this whole table is manufactured wood, at this price point, I do think that the construction materials are on par with a lot of what you’ll find on the market. I’m very drawn to the shape, which I find very interesting with the perpendicular bases and the gap between them. A table like this would be a cool modern moment in a small eating area or dining room.

Seats: 4 | Dimensions: 53.9”L x 31.5”W x 29.9”H | Made from: Manufactured Wood

Right table: This one is like a trestle, but reimagined with the center bar higher up under the tabletop. It’s contemporary without feeling overly tethered to a moment in time, so the design should be fairly lasting.

Seats: 6 | Dimensions: 69.9″L x 31.5″W x 30″H | Made from: Engineered wood and veneer, solid wood

Large or Extendable Affordable Dining Tables Under $1,000

Torno 90″-112″ Extendable Dining Table – $995

This table and the one that follows are both so incredibly good for the price. It’s huge, with seating from 6 all the way to 12 with the extension leaf. The turned bobbin legs are playful and special, and it would be a top contender for me personally, except that my dining room couldn’t fit it.

Seats: 6 – 8 w/out leaf, 8 to 10 w/ leaf | Dimensions: (w/out leaf): 90″L x 42″W x 30″H, (w/ leaf): 112″L x 42″W x 30″H | Made from: Acacia-veneered top in a walnut finish, solid wood apron with solid wood bobbin-style legs

Deja 90″-112″ Extension Dining Table – $995

The fluted apron on this table and the dark ashy finish honestly look like a $3,000 table from Lulu & Georgia. Except it’s actually $995 on sale from Poly & Bark (be sure to use code FALL!). Plus, it extends out to 112 inches with seating for up to 12 people, so it’s a behemoth for a large dining room for less than $1,000! Unbelievable.

Seats: 8-10 w/out leaf, 10-12 w/ leaf | Dimensions: (w/out leaf): 90″L x 42″W x 30″H, (w/ leaf): 112″L x 42″W x 30″H | Made from: Engineered hardwood top with an oak veneer, solid wood legs and frame

Coleson 78″ Oak Dining Table – $729

There aren’t many bleached wood options on this list, but I liked the matte wood finish of this beachy oak extension table. The product page doesn’t note the size of the center leaf, so I’m not sure what the dimensions are without it, but typically they are around 12 inches so that’s my best guess.

Seats: 6 to 8 | Dimensions: 78”L x 42”W x 30.75”H | Made from: Solid oak and manufactured wood

Reed Extendable Dining Table – $999

Look at that dovetail detail at the bottom of the trestle base and at the top of the legs! And it’s extendable, too?!? If I didn’t already have a table (more on that another time), I’d highly consider this bad boy, especially considering it’s crafted from a combination of solid mango and acacia woods.

Seats: 6 to 8 | Dimensions: (w/out leaf): 73″L x 33″W x 30″H, (w/ leaf): 97″L x 33″W x 30″H | Made from: Mango wood and solid acacia wood

—

And we’ve reached the end. When I started this post, I actually had at least three others listed, but they were all open box items that sold before I could finish writing! It’s a good reminder that there are many avenues to buying furniture these days: New, new but open box (which usually means some imperfections for a lower price point), second-hand, vintage, antique…whatever your motive, whether price point, condition, or sustainability, you can find the right piece for you if you have a little patience and are willing to shop around.

Let us know what other category you’d like to see this “expensive-looking but affordable” label applied to, and we’ll see what we can do.

Until next time, friends…
