The Link Up: The Coffee Table Book Em Wanted For Christmas, Arlyn’s Hardworking Mop, And A Viral Wall Light

Happy Sunday, everyone. For Black History Month, we wanted to make sure you all know about some of our favorite brands and creators, just giving extra love and awareness because it’s important to celebrate (and feel celebrated). So a lot of our links this month will have a bit of a theme (although it doesn’t end when March starts). Let’s get to these links!

This week’s house tour is of beauty and lifestyle content creator Toni Bravo‘s beautiful home, designed by the incredible Proem Studio. This home is already in the running for our favorite of the year! It’s full of color and pattern and makes your heart sing. Go check it out now!

From Emily: I feel pretty dang motivated to share my love for the Obamas right now (Friday’s post on Truth Social from DT continues to send shock waves of horror through me). For Christmas, I asked for Michelle Obama’s new coffee table book, seemingly about fashion, called The Look. As you can imagine, it’s not just about her ‘fits. She is far too deep, too profound, too intelligent to dedicate her time to showing off just photos of her in beautiful clothes. The book is heavy on pictures, of course, (and the fashion is so fun to see – all these moments in time with the “whys” behind what she wore), but it’s also about feminism, expectations, beauty standards, race (a whole section about her hair and what having hair as a black woman means), life in the public eye, and the importance of personal style as a message to send. Honestly, I wanted the book because I wanted a piece of her displayed in my living room, nearby me at all times. I admire her, and it simply feels good to collect the works of people I admire. It’s a fantastic gift. (Also loved her episode of Call Her Daddy – it felt loose and fun, and I got to hear more of what I love from her, as well as another side).

Also From Emily: Brian’s second post on our personal newsletter is how he made the decision to be the lead parent (yes, stay-at-home dad, but we are all done with that term for either gender). Now I know the story, I lived it, and while there are points in the process that we both want to forget, I knew how it all went down. And yet I was totally riveted, and I teared up 3 times (I’m very close to it, obviously). I’m just so proud of him for being so open and owning it (and not to mention being such an exceptional lead parent). I know that not everyone’s experience with men is as positive as mine, but man, this generation of men in our lives are such good, heavily involved dads. We have more lead parent dads in our lives than I would have predicted, and it’s pretty remarkable. Anyway, just wanted to flag it if you missed it yesterday or if this was the post you were waiting to read. It’s so vulnerable and still entertaining.

Here’s this week’s Instagram highlights:

From Arlyn: The O-Cedar Spin Mop is not a new invention, and you probably have seen it or maybe owned it already for years. But I haven’t, so now I’m singing its praises in case you were a holdout like me. I’ve been using Swiffer wets or the upgrade Wet Jet for years before I got a Tineco. And while I do love the ease of my wet-dry vac, it doesn’t serve the purpose for me anymore of doing a good, solid scrub/clean of my floors. Some spots, like my kitchen and bathrooms, need a firmer hand that I can get from the Tineco. So after using this spin mop at my daughter’s co-op preschool, I decided to grab one for myself. Suffice it to say, I’m very pleased with it!

From Jess: If you are unaware of Claude Home, my goodness, you are in for a treat. The curation of vintage is insane, the contemporary artists they stock are amazing, and they even have their own line. The prices aren’t super affordable, but even if you just look for inspireation you won’t be sorry. Follow Claude Home on Instagram, too!

From Marlee: A new hair product recc for you – I just got this hair oil from the brand ROZ, and it’s sooo yummy. The smell is amazing – it’s a super fresh, bright, yet subtly jasmine-y scent. It’s super lightweight and really helps with my frizz when I use it on my dry hair, and I love that I can put it on my damp hair, and it’s a heat protectant up to 450 degrees. I’ve been loving it!

From Gretchen: Not gonna lie, lately things just feel extra bleak. Last weekend, I attended the Labor Against ICE march in Portland and experienced tear gas for the first time. It was painful and scary, and it sent me into a bit of a depression, thinking about the state of our world. If it ain’t ICE, it’s awful reminders of sweeping economic disparities, blatant racism, police brutalities, not to mention the horrific ongoing global genocides, and before I can even blink, a brand new rabbit hole all about the Epstein files. It can feel so dark, but wallowing in it won’t do anything to fix it. I need more light in my life to balance it out–literally. Amidst my dim doom scroll days, a beautiful product and creator graced my screen to throw a beautiful band-aid on these hard feelings. Tyka Pryde is an incredible designer known for her viral (and genius) wall light, which looks like modern art but glows like a sunset. At first glance, when turned off, these oversized canvases appear just like abstract art. But turned on, their light truly transforms a space. Honestly, the videos show it off a lot better than I can explain it, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Turns out she offers them in a number of shapes, sizes, and sun sequences. I was torn between sunrise and sunset, but ultimately chose the latter because it’s the phase of light that makes me the happiest. And I’m hoping that this arty light can bring me more of that joy whenever I need it. I just purchased it this week, and I think because of its viral-ocity, it looks like it’s going to take a bit to arrive, so I’ll have to update you on how I like it. But the shipping was free, and the pricing felt fair, especially if you look at it like buying a new art piece PLUS a new lamp. Tyka’s other designs are equally stunning. Check out her shop! This swivel chair is a total showstopper.

From Mallory: If you’re in the market for some new home decor – this is your spot! Goddee is FULL of amazing pieces – like this candle sconce and these awesome plates. I’ve followed them on Instagram for a while, and their pieces are always spectacular. Definitely check them out!

From Caitlin: Have you been following Mikel Welch on Instagram? His video production lately has been out of this world – every single piece of content he shared this year feels like it’s straight out of a Wes Anderson movie. We’re huge fans of his over here (did you know he interned on Secrets of a Stylist before teaming back up with EHD for a Skillshare course in 2021?!), and I’m an even bigger fan of his recent book, The Forever Home, which is a must-have for any lovers of curated, elevated, timeless design. As if that’s not enough, you can also catch him as the home expert on Drew Barrymore’s talk show. He’s just crushing it across all platforms – social, TV, books, airplanes (yes, you can watch that Skillshare class on American Airlines flights – Em’s is available, too!)…if you’re not following him yet, it’s time to get on board!

Thank you for spending time with us, and see you tomorrow for a fun update. xx
