Happy Sunday, everyone. While you won’t get our gift guides till November, fear not, they are in the works! Emily and the PDX team also did a very fun holiday shoot that you’ll get a sneak peek of down below:) That’s all for today, so let’s get into these links.
This week’s house tour is SUCH a treat!! It’s a spread of Reath Design’s newest home, and it’s as wonderful as you’d expect. Cozy, whimsical, and so much pattern.

From Emily: My new favorite Pajamas are 50% off (literally no idea why, they are brand new – GO GET THEM!!). I am an absolute matching pajama expert, mostly because I’m VERY specific about exactly how these should feel – extremely soft, lightweight, breathable. I want to feel like l am naked in bed, to barely notice I have them on. I also think I have some sensory issues, but if I can feel the elastic around my waist or feel the seams anywhere, those pajamas are dead to me. Over the years, my favorites have been J.Crew and The Gap (with Target coming in as GREAT for its affordability, and equally as soft, but they don’t last as long and will pill after about a year). I recently bought a set of these cute burgundy-patterned PJs from The Gap for our holiday shoot (in their trademark Modal fabric – whatever it is, it’s HEAVEN), and immediately bought 3 sets of them so that I don’t have to search for these right before bed. The J.Crew ones I bought 2 years ago are still going strong, but they are a bit stretched out now, and I love this burgundy pattern, so it felt like time. Anyway, if you are in the market or you want to stock up for Christmas, snag these. I wish so badly they made family PJs for everyone – my kids would LOVE these, too.
From Marlee: Me and all my friends are obsessed with this brand of hair accessories, Chunks – they make these really fun clips that are the cutest colors + designs, and I love funking up a basic outfit with a fun clip. They’re super high quality and hold all my hair no problem (it’s super long right now). So cute!!
From Gretchen: Recently, I’ve been loving my super simple, dual-sided eyebrow pencil from Maybelline. I wasn’t always a huge eyebrow-filler-inner, but lately I’ve been liking the look of a fuller, darker brow–especially when I opt out of wearing eye makeup, which is often these days. Throwing on a brow still makes me feel somewhat done-up, but with little effort because this pencil is so forgiving. I spend two seconds coloring in them in, and two more seconds blending them out. I like the teardrop-shaped tip, one you don’t have to sharpen but just roll up and down. It has a nice amount of pigment and draws on easily. The rounded spoolie on the other end is great too! It blends super well and softens the harsher pencil lines on the inner brow to look nice and natural. Soft-brown is my go-to color!
From Mallory: My birthday just passed, and every year we make Alison Roman’s clam pasta to celebrate because it’s my absolute favorite. If you’re looking for an easy and delicious dinner, make this one!!
From Arlyn: What can anyone here tell me about Rothy’s? I’ve had my eye on a pair of Mary Jane flats from them for a while, but anything over the $100 mark leaves me with analysis paralysis. I like the look of them. I know people online mention they are comfortable, but…are they worth it? Spending nearly $200 after tax for a pair of shoes that are essentially recycled plastic makes me wonder how long they’ll last. I was also enticed by these leather ballet flats from Nisolo, which are leather and a little lower in price point, though not by much. I’ve been wearing my Nisolo huaraches for like six years straight and am happy with them, so perhaps that’s all I need to tell myself. BUT, if anyone has experience with Rothy’s fit, durability, comfort, or sizing, please…let ya girl know, okay?
From Caitlin: My cat hasn’t been doing too well lately (we need all the good vibes we can get!), and lately, I’ve found myself waking up in the middle of the night to check on her with little hope of returning to sleep. Around 3 AM on Tuesday morning, I popped on Apple’s new romantic drama All of You in hopes of taking my mind off things…and it worked, because I HAVE A NEWFOUND CRUSH ON BRETT GOLDSTEIN!!! If you’re into cinematic shots of a man just…well, yearning, I guess, this will be right up your alley. (Like, did you love Paul Mescal in Normal People? If so, drop what you’re doing and sprint to your television.) Just trust me on this one. But watch it alone, because it’s a weeper – then come back here so we can both gab about how Brett is such a good romantic lead!!!
From Jess: I went to my go-to place for jeans this past week, Everlane, and found the most wonderful, comfortable, cool wide-leg pair. They are mid-rise, have a cool extra side panel, and again, are so comfortable! They aren’t really selling them on the site (styling-wise), so know they are so much better in person. I would maybe consider sizing down too:)
Thank you for spending a little time with us today, and see you tomorrow! xx

Rothy’s fan here! I can’t vouch for their current lineup but I’ve had a pair since 2018 and they’re very comfortable if you’re okay without arch support. They still look pretty much new after frequent wearing; the soles are starting to wear down but that’s fair. I had to go up a half size from my normal, and while they wash up great, be sure to wash them in cold water because they can shrink a little in warmer temps.
Also love my Rothy’s. I’m a pediatrician so on my feet a lot. Just bought a pair of Mary Jane flats and like them. My fave are the loafers. In general I’ve found they really hold up and look new for years. But lately, I’ve been buying them on Poshmark. I can usually find them new for under $100.
Don’t love Rothy’s (just not worth the price, imo).
Do love yearning men.
I have also had Rothy’s and they do wash well in the laundry, cold water and air dry. But you can’t really wear them in wet weather and they aren’t very supportive (as a teacher I can say that they are a popular shoe for teachers but I’ve never seen a student wearing them). My favorite ballet flat is from Camper, the Casi Myra line, and they have a Mary Jane version.I have three pairs of the Casi Myra—just got their gorgeous new dark green color. I’ve had my first pair for four years and they are so comfortable right out of the box.
Arlyn, not a Rothy’s wearer. But I have come with another recommendation. I am a recent (within the last year) convert to Margaux flats. I bought the Demi Jane first and heaven. Followed by the Demi and I can wear them all day. I am on my feet for most of the day and they are so comfortable. Extra padding. Support. The ability to make them tighter or looser. No, not cheap. They are not recycled materials for sure. But they are made out of pretty lux leather. But I love them. And their customer service is pretty incredible. They offer you a pretty decent first purchase discount and will personalize a code if you reach out. I also had an issue with the stitching inside one of my shoes (after wearing them) and they sent me a new pair. Both pairs I bought run about a half size small for me (I am between 5.5 and 6 and the 5.5M works perfect). Happy hunting!
I bought a pair of Rothy’s to replace my all time favorite and very durable Cole Haan work flats, and I didn’t have a great experience. I found the material scratchy and uncomfortable and even though I dont expect support from flats I found my feet hurting more than usual. I could have dealt with those issues, but the deal breaker was the foot sweat! I am not usually a person with overly sweaty or stinky feet issues, but I found myself wanting/needing to wash the Rothy’s regularly because of the stench. It was so noticeable to my nose that I was even self-conscious at work wondering if others noticed my stinky feet. This might be a personal problem, but I have NEVER had that issue with any other shoes, so I don’t know what was going on. I’m bummed because I like the patterns and shapes of Rothy’s, and have been looking for a pair of Mary Jane’s too, but I can’t bring myself to buy them for fear of return of the stinky feet lol.
I have 3 pairs of Rothy’s, all flats. I’m normally a solid 6.5 and have to get these in a 7. I do think they’re comfortable for all day wear. I wish they were cheaper, but I know they’re comfy so I’ve been reluctant to try others (been looking at Vivaia… anyone have feedback on these?) And they look great over a year in (I do wear them often.) The only thing I’m hesitant about (I want a pair of Mary Jane flats too!) is that I can feel the mesh-ness texture of the plastic after a full day and it is sometimes annoying. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, and maybe it’s just me! I’d suggest getting a pair to try as you can’t go wrong with black flats.
I have a pair of Vivais. I love them. I have broken both feet and I have a bunion ( I know, gross) I have to get thicker soles with a wider foot bed. The chunky loafers are so good. I just wash the insoles. Definitely getting another pair when I am able.
I can second that the Vivais are far more comfortable than Rothy’s (have both pointed toe and mary jane pairs of both brands). They both wash well, but the Vivai’s are like full day at Disney World comfortable.
Emily, the Gap modal pajamas have been my favorite for years too! Did you notice they changed the waist band on the new sets though?! Instead of the old style with the flat wide waist band and no digging, it’s a small elastic band now. I was so sad because I love all the new prints. The new band is not as comfy though!
I just snagged two pairs of the PJ’s! I also have sensory issues and love cotton modal fabric. Code TREAT gave an extra 20% off!
FYI they didn’t have any more of the burgundy patterned tops when I looked.
I keep trying Rothy’s flats and I hate them– I love the concept or a washable shoe, but in reality they are unsupportive, unflattering on my wide-ish foot and expensive for plastic shoes. My biggest issue is that my feet sweat in them like a wrestler in a trash bag suit trying to make weight and it feels vile.
Whatever flats you end up with, I HIGHLY recommend the Aetrex L105W Fashion Metatarsil Orthotic– it is a half orthotic that you can pop into any flat to get arch support. I thought I was being upsold at a fancy shoe store, but then I wore them for a day and it was life changing. They have an adhesive bit on them, but I don’t use it since I move one set between shoes.
Thank you for the orthotic recommendation. I love trying new ones!
Arlyn, Rothy’s are great and they run very small. I got several pairs off of one of the resale sites for a good price and they were barely worn. They are comfortable and can be paired with many different things.
Rothy’s are more than worth it! Love being able to toss them in the washing machine! Just remember to take out the inserts and don’t put in the dryer! Air dry!
Arlyn, Rothy’s fan here. I LOVE my Mary Jane’s – I got the bubble pink and I wear them so much, I am considering a second. Nordstrom has a couple on sale but it is worth going in the store to try on your size. They are different depending on style. I would say MJ’s for me have been TTS/err on your biggest size (I am sometimes between sizes) they wash beautifully. Usually you can get a coupon the first pair. Once a year, they do a deeper discount – so again worth it to try in store then know your size for future
So Jess, could you/would you elaborate on how to style the Everlane wide leg jeans?? Styling is always a puzzle…
Arlyn, I am a huge Rothy’s fan! I’ve been wearing them for at least 6 years and some of my pairs still look brand new. I wrote this post (areweadultsyet.com/2020/02/27/how-to-wash-your-rothys) about washing them in the washing machine if you have questions there, I’m impressed every time with how clean they end up.

Laura, Are We Adults Yet?
Pro tip for Rothy’s: Try them on in a store (or try on a friend’s) to figure out your size, then buy them new on eBay. I have 3 pairs and only paid full price for one. Secondhand (even new!) you can find them for closer to $50-60. Love them, but not worth $200.
Yes – came here to say this. I bought all my Rothy’s (except for mary janes) on Poshmark and I love them. I have wide feet and I find them very comfortable. I always size up a half size – except for the mules – those I get in my regular size.
I saved up and tried Rothy’s a few years back, but they weren’t for me. Not nice looking at all on my wide feet. Since then, I’ve become a huge fan of leather shoes and wide toe boxes.
Not a fan of nisolo Arlyn. Their quality has gone down and I’m still salty with not getting my shoes in the five for five club. My go to brands these days (on sale only) are m.gemi and a.soliani. I also love a random store called hal shoes because they have good stuff and go on amazing end of season sales.
Well Arlyn, your ask the audience about Rothy’s is giving you conflicting feedback. Some love em, some hate em. I’m not a fan. They didn’t provide enough support for me. Which was disappointing because I like their styles.
I have a pair of Rothy’s and bought a 1/2 size up to add an orthotic insole and voila! Super cute and comfy now! As someone mentioned they are fair-weather shoes and I live in Maine so they only get worn summer and early-Fall. I have the Mary Janes in navy. Very cute and versatile. Eyeing the “clogs” as house shoes now.
I love Rothy’s, basically all I wear…but I have not bought any for several years. They did a thing where they asked for customer feedback and everyone complained about sizing (for reference, I am a size 7.5 and I wear a size 9 in the old point style Rothy’s) so then they changed their sizing to make it not as far off, but now folks who bought them back in the day never know what size they need now. I also have heard the heel part now extends up higher and results in a cutting in at the top of your heel that is uncomfortable. I love that I can wash them and I like all the fun colors but I am set with the ones I have. Check out Rothy’s Unicorn Collective on Facebook. Fun group of women supporting one another, posting outfits and life updates, etc. But a huge resale place also and you can get like-new pairs for similar prices as Ebay or Posh. I do know several folks like Vivaia also and similar shoes are popping up all the time elsewhere (Old Navy even has a few) – main thing those is sometimes the insoles aren’t… Read more »
