The Link Up: Em’s 3 Easter Dress Recs, Arlyn’s Perfect Cool “Mom” Purse, And Some Cute Affordable Decor

Happy Sunday, everyone. These intros become harder and harder to write each week as the world continues to default towards more hate and despair. But hate is never something you will find here. So, as we focus on love and community action, let this be a little break with some links and very good Easter dress recs from Emily herself.

This week’s house tour is Drew Barrymore’s Upstate New York home. It was a labor of love that’s filled with pieces she already owned, which is really refreshing. It’s incredibly charming and warm, just like she is. Go check it out!

From Emily: Here are my Easter dress recs that I found and love!

While I don’t put up Easter wreaths (anymore) or decorate with Bunnies for a month, I do love an Easter-appropriate dress, and florals are where it’s at. This first one, from Target, is shockingly good and so easy to wear.

Dress | Slides

This is a shirt dress with a tie, puff sleeves, and a pattern – the trifecta of flattering elements. It might require some self-tanner (I love Coco and Eve, Loving Tan (the whole line), and St. Tropez when I’m not getting a spray tan weekly).

Dress | Heels

This one made me feel like QUITE the lady. It looks so high-end, drapes incredibly, and the floral pattern is so pretty.

Dress | Heels

This is an extremely comfortable dress. It isn’t tight, doesn’t hug, and the pattern is bright without being too bold. I felt like a fancy southern lady going to church in this outfit.

Dress | Flats

Ok, now we were all on the fence about this one – it goes very early 90s prom, which I think might be in? The reason I’m highlighting it is that it’s oddly flattering and well-made, considering it’s from Target. It’s not for everyone (and maybe it skews younger?), but I thought it was worth the show-and-tell. The flats are cute, but I ended up returning them because white cotton shoes make zero sense in Oregon 🙂

Oh, girlfriend is about to Brunch SO HARD (with or without Jesus!).

This week’s Instagram highlights in case you missed them:

From Jess: I want to be clear that I love a netted or jelly flat shoe. I have at least two pairs. But I also want a shoe that, when I feel like it, doesn’t show off my toes. Can’t a girl get a solid flat that isn’t a Mary Jane (they are EVERYWHERE) or something not see-through??? My other criterion is that I don’t want them to be too formal – just a little playful, but fit for an adult woman. Apparently, this is a needle in a haystack. So when I found these, I was very excited. They’re basically a grown-up ballet slipper. I LOVE the color (I’ve become obsessed with light blue) and how they elongate my legs. And while I wouldn’t say they are wildly supportive, they are very comfortable. Oh, and they are $59! They only come in half sizes, so I went up rather than down, and they were perfect. I also really loved the butter yellow.

From Arlyn: I’ve been eyeing a bag I constantly see slung around the torso of one of the moms I’m friends with at my daughter’s school, and I finally decided to ask her about it. Surely, I could have asked her sooner, but I’m always afraid I’m going to learn that it’s expensive and beyond my budget, or old and no longer available to buy. But this one checked all the right boxes! I had never heard of the brand Canvelle, but I’m glad I know it now! A year or so ago, I purchased a crescent crossbody bag from a Facebook ad, and it ended up being so floppy that everything piled up in the middle bottom of the purse, making it so frustrating to grab what I needed. These bags are sturdy while still looking casual, have great pocket structure, and a key lanyard. I’ll be sure to keep this one on the list for the next time I find myself needing a new purse!

From Marlee: I’ve recommended these jeans before, but I just snagged them in another wash, and they’re SO good that they deserve another mention (they’re also on sale right now). They’re the Levi’s low loose, and I love how they fit – I’m 5’8” with long legs and a shorter torso, and these sit right at my hips, and are a perfect straight leg. No flare, no taper. I usually wear between a 26 and a 28, depending on how I want my pants to fit, and I have these in a 26! They’re a little snug when they come out of the wash, but they loosen up quick without losing their shape or getting too baggy.

From Gretchen: I’ve been seeing “ugly cool” shoes all over my timeline. I never thought I would be attracted to such a shoe (heavy black soles, wild colors, and comfort over everything else), but I have to say, I have just been so drawn to the way people style them lately. And for a girl from Portland, a comfortable, “gorpcore” shoe is not that outlandish of a purchase. I stumbled on these Nikes in one online girl’s “ugly shoe roundup” video and couldn’t get them out of my mind (or my shopping cart). I have to say they are super comfortable and I LOVE the electric green laces, plus a black-bottomed shoe is sooooo much easier to keep clean (or leave dirty). Next on my ugly-but-maybe-they’re-actual-so-cute-shoe wishlist are the KEEN Jasper shoes!

From Caitlin: Den and I are newly obsessed with Louis Theroux’s recent documentary on the manosphere,  which follows a handful of dumb, spineless, misogynistic nitwits who make content for teenage boys. I’m torn on how I feel about it – we spent a solid 90 minutes last Saturday doubled over in laughter at the drivel spilling from these men’s mouths, before returning to the stark reality that these bozos seem to be winning the messaging war in respect to young men. Their lives are so obviously a simulacra – one influencer admits he’d never speak about women negatively in front of his mom; another puffs his chest and demands his room cleaned and immediately pales when his girlfriend corrects that he will also be helping with the chores – but it’s harrowing that kids can’t differentiate the difference between these men’s public peacocking and their private reality. I think the documentary should be required viewing for pretty much everyone – it’s an eye-opener for those who have been lucky enough to avoid the darkest parts of the internet, and I hope it’s an opportunity to bring some young men back into…well, normalcy, I guess? If nothing else, Louis Theroux proves that all it takes to counter a lunatic’s argument is one stony-faced person with a grasp on reality and a refusal to compromise on strongly-held morals. Give it a watch!!!

From Mallory: I love to shop small whenever possible, but boy oh boy, can it be expensive. I found some REALLY great home decor pieces for only $15, though, that I must tell you about. Well, first I have some exciting news – I got to film a fun Walmart partnership last weekend (which was so amazing!), so I went to the store and found some really, really great, affordable home decor products. These pieces were real standouts for me, so I thought I’d share! 1) This $15 striped tablecloth – the fabric and stitching make it seem way more expensive than it is. 2) This ruffled vase – it’s so elegant and adorable! I could not believe the price on this guy for real. 3) This woven vase – SO CUTE. The only thing is you need a pretty narrow glass or something to put in it to actually put water in there, but it would be great with faux florals. I was so impressed by their home decor, and it’s always nice to find cute items that don’t break the bank.

Thanks for coming by and see you tomorrow:)
