The Portland House

The Portland House Is For Sale (Listing, Sneak Peaks + Party Details)

So, you’ve been following along with the Portland traditional fixer upper on all EHD social channels (we’ve storied this a TON), read up on the renovation plans we’ve hit on so far on the blog like what color the front door should be, some of you have even offered up your furniture/art/home goodies for the staging of the home…AND NOW IT’S TIME TO ACTUALLY SEE THIS BABY IN PERSON. As a reminder, Team EHD will be at the Dunthorpe residence Saturday (tomorrow!), July 21 from 3 to 7 pm.

The house is officially on the market as of yesterday, July 19, and you can see the listing here with all the juicy details.

A few reminders if you’re coming to the open house/party:

  • Shoot us a quick email at hello@emilyhendersondesign.com with an RSVP subject line to let us know you’re coming so we can plan for all of you (you may get an out of office notice from the email, but don’t worry…we’re seeing the messages roll in).
  • Please don’t wear stiletto heels (gotta protect these gorgeous floors for the future buyer).
  • Either take a car-sharing service (Uber/Lyft) or park near the Riverdale Grade School at 11733 SW Breyman Ave. and take the shuttle over (we’ll have someone coming around regularly to pick you guys up and bring you to the house). There will be no parking on site, so pretty please plan accordingly.

For anyone not able to come, here are a few more sneak peeks so you feel sort of kind of like you’re here. We’ll be shooting the whole home starting next week for the blog, so stay tuned for FULL REVEAL posts comin’ atcha later next month and beyond.

Okay, okay, we know you’re here both for the listing details and those sneak peeks, so here you go:

That is such a chi chi neighborhood. I would say it is easily the most old money neighborhood in Portland and is chock a block full of mansions and very exclusive public schools! ? That is crazy you did a house there. 15+ years ago I was a temporary nanny and worked in several homes around there. They are magnificent. And it is an OLD neighborhood with very large, very private wooded lots that Portland’s elite have lived in for over a century. You guys scored on the location choice.

Are the stair balusters custom? Or could I order from somewhere? I’ve been looking everywhere for a link!

WOW this is absolutely stunning!!! I want to be in it. It’s really inspiring as we renovate our house. We aren’t super traditional but this shows how you can incorporate traditional elements without it feeling super traditional. Nice work!! Where is the plaid couch from????

Wow! I hope you and your brother make a boatload of money and then do this again and again and again until you don’t have to work unless you want to! You’ve turned this old beauty into a place that can provide happiness and memories to another few generations. AND THAT is good work. (Kudos to your devoted team as well!)

You have outdone yourself! This is truly a wonderful interior. I love that the whole house is done and that we can see the consistent style across the whole thing. Also, that staircase is to die for!! My favorite thing in the whole place, I think. The owners will barely have to furnish or decorate because all that architectural detail carries the home.

I seriously could not BELIEVE how many people were there last night! It was crazy! The house was amazing, I was thoroughly impressed. The styling was fantastic, so many wonderful pieces and touches in every room. I’m super curious: were you guys able to stay in your original budget? And I assume the landscaping was not included in those original numbers, how much (and who did you use, I live here and need to redo my yard! ) did that add to the budget? We’ve never met (and certainly couldn’t happen yesterday, that line to meet you was crazy long, ha!) but I know most of your family and it was so nice catching up with your mom. Congrats on the project, you and Ken make a great team!!

You may have addressed this, but what do you do with all the new furnishings, bedding, art, etc that you used to stage the house? Does it get donated, thrown out, resold? Just wondering, as it all looks very beautiful and high end
