Last week we took a little walk back in time when we went over to style out and shoot a recently completed master bathroom from the Silverlake Hills Home. Remember when Orlando and I designed it centuries ago? We’ve been working on a few other rooms for them recently namely the Kitchen and Living Room which we have already shown you, and have finally finished up their master bathroom which we have coming up very soon on the blog. But, walking into that house made me realize how much I STILL loved their dining room. It’s traditional yet modern, eclectic yet pulled together and has a heavy dose of navy blue which you know I will always love. So, naturally we decided to use navy blue and pull together this modern traditional budget dining room.
For our jumping off point we used Stiffkey Blue by Farrow and Ball for the walls. This is the blue that Ginny used in her dining room and it is such a wonderful color both in pictures and in person. It isn’t quite as dark as Hague Blue which is another blue that we love and have used from Farrow and Ball, but it brings the navy tone into the room in such a pretty saturated way.

Our first one comes in at just under 5k and I have to admit this one is my favorite – sorry #2 and #3. Those chairs are really selling it for me and the curved backs mixed with modern black legs are speaking to me in all the right ways. After having cushioned dining chairs in our current setup I have to tell you a cush for your tush is the only way to go, especially when your dinners turn into dinner parties. That burl wood credenza brings some much needed warmth into the space and the round mirror above not only helps reflect light around the room but also echoes the curves that you see in the chairs.

We chopped 2k off the price for this middle one by swapping out a few of the accessories and the chairs. If you have the budget for the first variation of chairs then I would say splurge and go for it as they are such great pieces but if not then this middle version can get you the look for a much more affordable price. We also swapped out the chandelier and I am as equally in love with this one as the first one and it’s only half the price.

Finally our most budget version comes in at exactly $2k. To bring the price down on this one we swapped out the rug, chairs, the lamps, a few accessories and the chandelier. I have seen these chairs in person and sat in them and they are great for the price and also come in a few other colors which might work for your dining room if you are just looking for some great affordable chairs to replace what you already have. We kept the burl wood credenza in this one and it is worth every penny. I haven’t seen it in person but from what I can tell from the pics and the size it would work great not only in a dining room but also as an entry console, and according to our last post chrome is back, so get it before it’s gone.
Now, if only this dining room could manage to get my kids to eat all their vegetables, sit through a full meal and not ask for snacks in the middle of dinner.
Let us know below if you have any questions on anything.
Is anyone else not able to view the photo for the $5000 room?
I have this print myself. It’s from Boriana Mihailovska and she’s on Etsy. I can totally vouch for how awesome this print is. It takes some time to get (I’m guessing customs), but worth every penny. I have two prints of her’s and even framed her thank you card to me as a little 4×5 picture in my gallery wall (it’s a cute, single abstract head).

I love these budget room designs, I want that runner, art and credenza now!
I’ve had my eye on the grey-green version of those Target dining chairs. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable they are when I tried them in store.
I am always hesitant to go traditional with my dining room but some of these pieces could work so well with any style. Love it!
I LOVE those west elm chairs in the under $5000 design! I’m going to start saving right now:)
Does the burl credenza have drawers? I can’t tell from the photos. And I wish the flipping between the different versions were a bit slower. I find it hard to view.
This is appreciable and wonderful post that you have provided for us.Great site and a great topic as well i really get amazed to read this.

When my kids were little, they would be literally sitting at the table with a plate full of food that they didn’t want and say “I’m hungry”.
Seriously?
