The “home” category is so massive (and things can get so expensive!!), so this year I focused on what felt like good “gifts” rather than just awesome home design pieces. Last year I guess I put 30 lamps on my gift guide, and the only popular two were little and special and on the affordable side (apparently no one buys a big lamp for someone else). So I really tried to keep it little + special, useful + attractive, or just fantastic essentials. Nothing crazy big or expensive (there are a couple splurgier pieces), and I spent hours combing Etsy while watching old episodes of Felicity and new episodes of Love is Blind (I found such good stuff!). Enjoy all of my favorite giftable decor ideas:)
Ceramic Shade Table Lamp: Portable, so you can add mood lighting anywhere you want. So affordable, and the details dance in the light. Everyone has a kitchen countertop that needs some mood lighting.
Portable Puzzle Light: For your puzzle enthusiast!! Portable and great direct light. The light has different temperatures (great for hobby painters like my daughter, who likes to watercolor while watching TV).
LED Brass Table Lamp: The perfect kitchen lamp. So classic and timeless. This one is splurgier but so heavy and well-designed.
Red Glass Table Lamp: A viral bestseller for a reason. I have this, and the color and reflection are so pretty. The whole glass lights up (and comes in a lot of different colors). More contemporary, but a great scale for an accent lamp.
Green Marble Touch Lamp: I bought this for my sister’s kitchen, and it looks incredible on a shelf (it’s rechargeable, so no cord). It’s a marble touch lamp (that I got on Amazon, strangely). Comes in different stones and shapes.
Daisy Blown Glass Accent Lamp: So cute, portable (and comes in 3 colors).
Footed Brass Candle Holder: So beautiful, classic, high quality (and heavy!). Can kinda go anywhere. Get them with the spiral tapers below from Etsy.
Piano Candle Holder Set: I bought these for myself because the color is so pretty (red but not too bold) and I love how they are tonal with the candles.
Heritage Candle Holder: Heavy, solid, timeless heritage brass candlesticks you’ll pass on to your kids.
Flamingo Estate Candle: The virility of these candles is crazy (it smells so so good).
Floral Lidded Porcelain Candle: This is so cute. Once it’s melted, it’s a fantastic lidded box.
Balsam Fir Candle: Smells really clean and fresh, and it’s super affordable.
Spiral Candlesticks: The shape makes your eyes dance, in total delight. I love these from an Etsy maker, and there are a lot of different colorways.
Balsam Fir Reed Diffuser: I bought this for myself. Such a gorgeous sculptural and minimal gift.
Wood-Turned Candle Holders: I bought these early in the fall because they are so sculptural, postmodern, and timeless. Fantastic for a mantel or dining table (not holiday-specific, which is nice).
Sin Candleholder: Sin sculptural pottery will add a quiet dose of high design wherever you put them. I have the large version and love it, but this single one is more affordable and still has a lot of impact.
Speckle Ceramic Match Striker: A forever crowd pleaser. Organic + functional, and a hit because you need one of these in each bathroom, near every candle, so you know it will be appreciated.
Astrology Ceramic Matchbox: The astrology enthusiast in your life will love this (along with a candle). Shows you personalized the gift a bit (but so easy).
Glass Cloche Long Matches: A great gift for anyone with a wood-burning fire (we need so many of these and this would be so pretty next to ours).
Brass Rechargeable Lighter: A great companion gift with a candle, and this one is so pretty and sleek, but not too mechanical.
Handmade Scallop Tray: I bought this for myself from an Etsy dealer, and it’s sooooo good (also comes in just white). Perfect for the bedside table, bathroom, or entry. Made by hand.
Two-Toned Wood Tray: The perfect little lift that takes it to another level (literally). That little foot adds the special detail.
Brass Tray: A simple, pretty $10 brass tray. This would be a great “holder” for a stationery set.
Swirl Catchall: A great gift for a design-loving friend or colleague. Little and easy to style (but packs a big punch).
Footed Soap Tray: No surprise here (this is so me). This footed tray will make any surface look more stylish. Think soap dish, jewelry dish on a vanity, or just as a sculpture on top of a stack of books (ooh, or to hold matchbooks).
Torsade Trinket Dish: This is so pretty and much bigger than it looks. The way the light catches is so pretty in person (think on top of a stack of books or on your holiday table). Nuts, fruit, keys – it can hold it all.
Unlacquered Brass Bowl: Wait for the patina on this one. That’s the real gift unlacquered brass gives.
Piecrust Pedestal Bowl: Obviously I have to have this on my island. Incredible. Pretty splurgy, but I’m obsessed.
Scallop Ceramic Vase: A simple shape with a special detail (with or without flowers). Giving vases can be tricky, so I love that both of these are easy to style flowers in and could go with any color of flowers.
Pleated Ceramic Vase: I have this in both sizes and both colors. So yes, it’s good and looks beautiful with and without flowers.
Rectangle Wooden Frame: I framed my old cats in this (RIP Bearcat!!), and it looks so cute in a gallery wall because the two-toned color and the shape look vintage and sculptural.
Round Tabletop Frame: A sentimental crowd-pleaser you can buy in bulk (adorable and high quality). I also love how a round frame looks with a simpler rectangular one.
Tramp Art Frame: A cool take on tramp art, but make it sentimental. For someone with more eclectic taste (but still not too loud or bold).
Oval Heritage Frame: So beautiful and classic. My MIL asked me what she could get for me and sent her this link. Look at those cute little feet!!!! It has a great antique vibe, without being too fussy.
Scallop Picture Frame: A neutral frame that’s not boring! I’ve had this one for years (and it comes in a lot of colors).
Scallop Gold Frame: The scallop details feel vintage, and the oval pairs really well with simpler shapes.
Let me make the case really quick. Most people don’t have enough art, and there are so many bare walls all over America. If you are reading this blog, you like design, so I scoured Etsy to find artists or dealers who had a really deep inventory, and I tried to keep them all under $100 or for oil paintings under $200. I know it’s splurgy, but original art should be!
Original MCM Swedish Painting: I want every piece of original art in this shop (most under $200). One-of-a-kind vintage paintings in incredible colors.
Vintage Landscape Oil Painting: These can look so great in a contemporary or more vintage home, I promise! As long as the colors work, you can’t go wrong.
Original Scene Oil Painting: This entire Etsy shop is full of paintings in this vibe, which can lean contemporary or vintage.
WE ARE MISSING THE THIRD ONE.
Abstract Mixed Media Collage: Very cool mixed media collages – a whole store of them (and affordable!). Think about all the bathrooms or hallways that have no art. Mix these with more old-world for a designer look.
Abstract Minimalist Art: A minimalist graphic piece of art (and this artist has a ton of color and size options).
Blue Abstract Oil Painting: This artist has so many paintings to choose from, all contemporary and cool, with so many different color palettes. Remember that small art is so pretty in a kitchen or bathroom.
Mini Oil Paintings: This artist has so many mini paintings for $25. LOVE. They lean more playful but they aren’t little kid necessarily. Great in a larger gallery wall or in a bathroom or bedroom.
Original Bird Drawings: This shop has so many sweet bird drawings for under $100 – specific, yes, but who doesn’t love the sculptural organic shape of birds??!!
Mini Pressed Flower Art: This shop has incredibly sweet pressed leaves and flower art. A lot of them are floral (not just four-leaf clovers, although what a great good luck charm).
Vintage Inspired Wine Glasses: Such a pretty shape with special details (and 4 for $56 is a great price). They don’t come in sets of different colors; don’t worry. I like the clear or green the best.
Martini/Champagne Coupe: I have these. Just classic and elegant, and they are the perfect shape for martinis.
Peony Goblet Glass: The perfect height that still feels like a wine glass, but with a more casual short stem. These colors are so pretty, but the clear or light green are my favorites.
Aredale Handmade Coupe: If you want to really have some fun… You don’t need more than 4, and they can totally dress up a bar.
Elevated Craft Cocktail Shaker: My cousin doesn’t travel without this. Vacuum-sealed, twist (doesn’t get stuck), and has shot measurements inside the lid.
John Derian Bottle Openers: A totally unique $12 gift that I would absolutely love to collect. Looks so pretty on a bar.
Sectioned Wood Serving Board: So good for someone, AHEM ME, who hosts a lot but is terrible at charcuterie boards.
Wood and White Cheese Board: Round looks pretty on a big island (that are usually rectangular).
Laguiole Cheese Knives: So classic and cool. No one ever has the right set of these.
Brass Cheese Cleaver: Such a fantastic gift!!!! One awesome brass cheese cleaver is so unique and useful.
La Faccia Cup: For the quirky design lover (pencil cup, toothbrush holder, or catchall). This same artist does platters and planters and plates. But a cup cna be the most versatile (great for colleagues, too).
Espresso Cup Set: These are the sweetest little espresso cups I ever did see. Giving Delft tile but in a cup.
Barro Cup: I love this powder blue and the shape of the handle. Great Coworker gift (comes in other colors, too).
Striped Travel Ceramic Mug: A travel cup in ceramic with so much charm (and if you order in time, they’ll personalize the bottom with a name). Another great Etsy find.
Colorstory Stripe Mug: I love these hand-painted mugs by a local maker in Portland that I love. That handle is perfect!!
Barro Jug: Powerful color, simple shape, high impact. So good. Can be great for big branches, too.
Torsade Pitcher: This pitcher is GORGEOUS. I saw it in person, and it’s much bigger than I thought (in a great way), and the ribbing makes the light dance off it. Oh, and it’s the perfect creamy white.
Water Carafe and Glass: So pretty for a guest room nightstand (you fill it up for your guests and they will think you are Martha Stewart).
Large Ceramic Platter: Clearly I have a type. Just bought this for all my holiday gatherings (and the color is great year-round).
Ridley Ceramic Platter: Splurgy, but such a statement piece and would be GORGEOUS on an island.
Emporia Stainless Steel Bowl: These are gorgeous (for desserts or just one for nuts).
Mori Matte White Pedestal Bowl: I love these on buffets to add height when serving groups.
Pillar Large Plate: Handmade locally and so simple and special. I wanted to give this local maker some love because these in-person are so pretty!
Elliot Gingham Salad Plates: Holiday without being too on theme. Think dessert or salads or next to the hot cocoa bar.
Handmade Butter Dish: On my list every year. I just love it on my counter so much (comes in lots of colors).
Wooden Salt and Pepper Grinder: A great value that looks good left out on the counter (I bought these from Amazon for my sister’s kitchen!).
Stoneware Oil and Vinegar Set: Affordable and so pretty on your counter (great hostess gift!) (if you want to take it to the next level, combine it with fancy Flamingo Estate olive oil and vinegar.
Stoneware Utensil Holder: So pretty for utensils, flowers, or even as a pot. Looks handmade but is really affordable.
Wooden Bread Box: I love having my breadbox on my counter. It’s so pretty (and useful) and keeps you from staring at saran packaging.
Nugget Ice Machine: Now is the time!!! Getting this for the guest house for my team. I love this color.
Tiered Serving Stand: So poppy and fun for the holidays (maybe for the cookies next to the hot cocoa bar?). IKEA, FTW.
Brass Beverage Dispenser: Perfect for a hot cocoa bar (or coffee). I have one for all our large gatherings, and it’s so pretty and functional (it can plug in, too, and stay warm for hours).
Self-Heating Mug Set: Brian swears by this – keeps coffee warm for all-day sipping.
This is hard because there are a million pillows and throws out there, and so many that are good. These are the ones that I have, or I think will work the most universally.
Trova Velvet Pillow: The best velvet pillow – comes in so many colors and flip it over for a different texture. 10/10
Cotton Velvet Lumbar Pillow: The one long bed pillow trend is still happening. This one is a great price for the quality (and it comes in a lot of colors).
Sarah Striped Pillow: I put this here because I bought it as a fun holiday pillow that doesn’t scream Christmas (the red or green stripe). It’s a dark bright red and cream.
Faux Fur Blanket: Incredibly soft, luxurious, and comes in a ton of beautiful colors. (We have one for each member of our family.)
Chenille Throw: Lighter than faux fur, but just as cozy (and a great living room sofa blanket).
Cableknit Throw Blanket: Comes in olive, brown, and bright cherry red. The tassels are playful but still classic!
Cable Throw Blanket: I love that it’s cable-knit and faux fur (and in a perfect deep burgundy).
Fair Isle Striated Blanket: This color palette and subtle pattern are moody and timeless.
Check Brown Wool Blanket: A great statement throw to shake up a simpler sofa.
Large Round Basket: The perfect “leave out” blanket basket.
Scalloped Edge Woven Basket: Love the scalloped edge and it’s the perfect woven planter with some whimsy:)
Large Wood Jewelry Box: A beautiful heirloom gift for a jewelry lover (and you can customize).
Crocodile Jewelry Box: This is so pretty (and looks really high-end but is only $35).
Striped Stash Box: Every design lover would like this. It can go almost anywhere and will add so much personality without being too loud or busy.
Peyton Wood Decorative Boxes: This made it on two years in a row because the texture and shape are so winning.
Striped Resin Storage Box: Feels OG Emily Henderson in the blue, white, and gold.
My Favorite Mattress: Plush on top, supportive underneath. I crave sleeping on this mattress and tell everyone I know. They have more firm versions as well (Marlee has it and loves it).
Goose Down Pillow: I just got this pillow, and now I GET IT. So luxe and squishy (but not too squishy or fluffy). I put it inside my silk pillowcase, and it’s so soft, like butter, without being too slippery.
Linen Blackout Curtains: I threw these on here because we used them in a project recently and they were surprisingly high quality and come in a lot of colors. Will buy over and over. If you have 8′ ceilings, get the 90″ version (finally!!!).
Bamboo Sheet Set: While I love Percale or sateen for duvet cover, for a fitted sheet and pillows these are extremely soft, too. Some Bamboo is really slippery and gets tangled up easily, but this is really great for the price.
Brooklinen Sateen Sheets: I have these on my bed right now, and the sateen is soft and smooth without being too slick (and not slippery). Absolutely luxurious. I bought them in the light blue, and it’s so pretty.
Brooklinen Percale Sheets: A fantastic percale – cooling and breathable. Crisp but soft.
Plush Turkish Towels: I love and have the black and white colorway. So high-quality, plush, and absorbent.
Hydrocotton Towels: These are so soft and plush (and I love the pattern). Snag a set of 6. A lot of affordable towels start out soft, but after 4 washings are just average. These wash really well over and over.
Piglet Striped Towel: The striped colorways are so good (I have the green).
Super Plush Turkish Bath Towel: Extremely plush (I have them in the Abyss colorway, and they are so pretty)
Recycled Colour Crate: Oddly useful (full visibility and yet still attractive!) A cult favorite for a reason.
Travel Series Hard Cover Book: I would love this! Not to mention the graphic design is so good.
Watercolor Playing Cards: This feels personal and custom – so many themed options.
Sin Bookends: Perfect for the book lover. Just picture in their library or on shelves.
John Derian Sticker Book: I’ve loved all things John Derian since I was 22. This sticker book gets you his work for only $35.
Watercolor Set: The case deserves to be displayed (and watercolor is shockingly satisfying).
Head over to the whole home shop page for even more (and I’ll be adding to it every day). And let me know if you want more furniture or splurgy decor. I love a drink table, an occasional ottoman, and I think that lighting is so important to parties. So if you are entertaining or hosting, I could add a lot more on the page that is bigger.

looking forward to trying the towels….thanks for the great gift ideas
Does “portable” typically mean battery-operated? I’m asking because I’m looking for a couple of cordless lamps, and I notice that the Ceramic Shade Table Lamp from Target and Daisy Blown Glass Accent Lamp from World Market are both listed as portable here but do have cords.
