Coats! Boots! Oh how I love to hunker down and wear a comfortable outfit on the inside with a great coat and boots on the outside. I just shot another quick social partnership with Madewell but I know that many of you don’t follow over there (which I fully get). So I figured I’d post about my pics here with commentary and a few non-Madewell pieces that I’m into. For these partnerships, they give me free rein to order stuff for them to send, but not everything works. So I usually go to the store and find what I think is very, very, very good. That’s all to say that it’s very edited and stuff I legit love (not stuff they ask me to wear/post about). So here they are…
Coat | T-Shirt | Jeans | Beanie | Boots
I think I whispered out loud “oh, hell yes,” when I put this coat on. It’s EXTREMELY GOOD. It’s fancy like a tweed wood coat, but long (extremely warm and cozy – maybe not New York in 15 degrees warm) and drapes in such a flattering way. It has pockets, a cute collar, is lined (which makes it easy to slip into), and is a great colorway and pattern. I wore it all day yesterday and got like 12 compliments on it. It’s not too hot for inside either (if you don’t layer underneath) so it’s not one of those that you have to take off when you get in the grocery store or on the subway.
The pants are the Cali demi boot cut (super cute flare and also great to tuck). The boots are SO GOOD – a lug sole knee-high with an edge. If you are in between sizes, size up. Mine are 7 and tight on me and I’m a solid 7. I also have small calves and they are kinda tight but I saw they offered a wider calf which I kinda wish I had opted for.
Classic with a really great edge!!! This boxy coat has slim arms and those proportions play with the eye and from my perspective makes me feel small. It’s really, really pretty and I feel like a classy lady in it. It also feels very high quality (and is splurgy but 30% off right now).
Sweatshirt (can’t find!) | Jeans | Boots
I can’t find that Patagonia sweatshirt on the internet but it’s so cute! Nicely tailored shoulders, a cute front pocket, and cozy insides. We recently were downtown after a date brunch and Brian and I both went in and got some pieces to support this awesome company.
Button-Up | T-Shirt | Jeans | Boots
I’ve been on the hunt for good flannels and have found too many that are like trying to be fitted. This is from Pendleton and the cut is awesome – more boxy less body con. Madewell also has this one that is excellent (size down, I have an XS and it’s still roomy).
Jacket | T-Shirt | Jeans | Chelsea Boots
This fleece is GREAT, although I might have to return it for an XS. It has corduroy pockets and the inside is fleece, too (I hate it when the outside is cozy but the inside is like a weird lining -the whole point is to feel the softness!). I’ve been wearing those boots NON STOP. They feel so comfortable for having a little lift.
Airpuff Long Shirt-Jacket | T-Shirt | Jeans | Boots
I think I wrote about this shacket before but put it in my coat reel on IG and so took photos of it for here, too. It’s awesome for fall and if it weren’t going to be raining the next 14 days straight in Portland (maybe one day off) I would say it’s a good October jacket :) The boots are new and have a very cool rubber sole that makes them feel more modern and cool IMHO.
Ok, that’s it. Most of this is in action on IG today if you want to see how things move on a body which I find always helpful. Also yes I got my hair finally done (and lightened) and it’s finally long again. PRAISE BE. xx
Love all the boots (I wear them constantly in fall through spring) but really hate this trend of just using elastic on boots instead of zippers. I have big wide feet and it is hard to put elasticated boots on – and I feel like they don’t provide as much ankle support.
It’s way cheaper to only use elastic and often guarantees new purchases after the elastic gives out,.
Love this round up. Thanks so much for sharing! I’m digging the Patagonia sweatshirt. I think I found the link but maybe not the exact color….
Have a fabulous weekend!
I love you Emily but I really despise these pictures where somebody is taking your picture and you are holding a phone like you are taking your selfie or that you are looking at yourself on the phone looking extremely pleased with yourself. I know this is not a new thing on your site (I don’t follow a lot of social media stuff so not sure if this is par for the course) but I guess I just hit my limit or maybe I’m feeling cranky this Saturday morning. Sorry for the vent
She is taking her own photo in the mirror ?
You can actually see the mirror in the photos.
“Sorry for the vent” …if you’ve typed that, it’s probably a good idea to skip posting the comment, no? As others have mentioned, the mirror is very visible. Venting is for best friends and therapists.
My fav’s are the Camryn boots (the last ones) and the Oversized Car Coat (first one).
Waaaay outa my price point, but drool-worthy, for sure.
I wonder if the first boots are a little tight in the calves coz you tucked in flared jeans?
As Aussies head towards the end of spring, I actually prefer winter clothes (Perth’s climate is much like LA’s), except shorts!! Shorts are soooo fab!?
I encourage you to look into the environmental impact of clothing, including what really happens to our clothing donations that don’t sell. At some point we need to say, “How much clothing and footwear is too much.”
Yep. You’re spot on! ?
Agree. So many contradictions on this site, It doesn’t sit well.
While I agree with your overall point, this is part of her business. If no one was paying her for things like this, she wouldn’t be able to keep the business going.
I don’t think her employees would be okay being paid in good intentions.
It is a tricky balance. Honestly, can you be an “Influencer” that gets some/most (not sure how it breaks down in EHD’s case) of your revenue from getting people to buy random things you post about (boots! Towels! Shackets! Etc) while also genuinely caring about the environment. And I am not trying to call anyone out, but it’s a real consideration in this day and age of influencers and content creators.
I think there has to be a evident struggle..I think Emily is struggling in a real way with the final vibe of a room -she has been open in sharing her discomfort with this. Environmental issues do not compare in terms of a personal struggle. I think this is a fact. Some will defend her regardless in comments. Not sure why. She’s an adult folks and I’m only saying what’s true. Gratefulness is not enough. It becomes simply lip service that allows one to continue to make the same choices over time. I really struggle with this. I tried not reading the blog after 10 years of it being my only every day blog but I like her a lot and her blog feels more personal than others. Like we all know each other. I stay, get frustrated and sometimes comment to root her on to see this from another advantage point.
I bought this cuddly fleece shacket from Nordstrom Rack. It’s super soft and cozy:
So cute! I just moved to Portland and would love to see your recommendations on rain gear! Cheers!
Love the Chelsea boots!!
Hoods! I live in Oregon too and we need hooded coats. No one uses umbrellas here, which is weird tbh. I’ve been told it’s because of the wind. But they manage to use them in England where it is also windy.
These are fun outfits. I’m in my 40s like you, been reading many years. I miss the old posts where you shared thoughts on things that mattered to you or things you were just perk-a-lating. A few staffers and some contributors over the years seem ready to share about important issues and have the leadership etc to keep everyone’s attention. One contributor was hosting a workshop a couple years ago about POC in design. I’d love to hear her progress in promoting this issue or for her to share up and coming POC designers to watch for. I just miss some of the depth of old posts yet I know you are so busy now to do so. Plus, the environment!
People call her out for the tiniest things so I bet she’s stepped back from being called out endlessly for not being a perfect paragon of virtue. Social Media has created strange expectations and para social relationships
I think that was Albie maybe. I’d love to hear how that conference went too! Unless you wrote about it already and I missed it. Very possible!
What size peacoat is are you wearing in the photo? We appear to be around the same size and I’d like to order one. Thanks!
Those boots look like a winner! And I appreciated the handmaids reference, just starting season 4 ?
I calculated that my 48 item wardrobe has a possible combination of around 13,000 outfits.
Just here to say I love your fashion posts!
Stick in your pie hole yah righteous snowflakes!!! These outfits are dope! Thanks for sharing Emily! I bought myself the top coat featured for my birthday!
