WE ALL NEED TO VOTE! The Registration Deadlines You Should Know (By State)
I am sure I don’t need to remind anyone that Election Day is in 62 days (now 45!). It’s all any news source can talk about and I know that impending date has almost every American a little on edge. About a week ago I checked my voter registration status 5 times just to make sure I was good to go and it dawned on me that the most important date we should be focused on at this moment is not Election Day but registration deadline day. Not surprisingly, deadlines and instructions on voter registration vary by state… I mean why make it simple? We at EHD want to empower everyone to use their voice and vote, so I put together this list to ensure YOU have the deadlines you need. Bookmark it, send it to your family and friends, and whatever you do GO VOTE!
Alabama

Delaware

Deadline to Request/Return Absentee Ballot: Request an absentee ballot by completing an “Affidavit for Absentee Ballot”. Return your completed affidavit to the Department of Elections for the county in which you reside and are registered to vote. All Absentee Ballots must be received by the Department of ElectionsOffice for your county no later than the closing of the polls at 8 p.m. on Election Day.

After the regular voter registration deadline of Tuesday, October 6, 2020, you can register and vote in person during a grace period, which begins the day after the deadline and runs through Election day. During this grace period, you can register and vote at your local election office, a permanent polling place, at early voting sites, at some polling places on election day, and at any other location specifically designated for grace-period voting by your election authority.

Deadline to Request/return Absentee Ballot: Absentee ballot requests through the Secretary of State’s website for the 2020 General Election will be accepted until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. You should mail your completed ballot back to your county clerk no later than October 27th to ensure it arrives before 7pm on Election Day.

Voting solves nothing. Whoever gets in will inherit the sh*tshow of America. What’s needed is root and branch reform of the whole corrupt, rotten system from the lobbyists to the vast sums of taxpayers money siphoned off into schemes and bail-outs.
Looking at others countries models could inform the process – for instant the Swiss Direct Democracy model where there are about 11 parties, no full time politicians and people vote on issues instead of parties and are able to call referendums if they get the required number of signatures.
Here in the UK it’s equally as disasterous, with endless gravy trains and public cynicism growing year by year.
The larger a business / country the more bureaucracy. America is a huge country, basically a continent. It seems unlikely one group could represent the interests of a whole continent. I wonder if it would be better served by splitting off into States or Counties with the control bigger on a local level – similar to Swiss Cantons?
Infortunatrly we aren’t going to change the system before November. I appreciate your idealism that a better system could exist but for now, Trump has to go!
The way I live is by a personal creed:
If I complain about something (anything, tiny, massive or mediocre), I have to personally DO something about it.
Once I’ve done something (e.g. marched against logging old growth forests, BLM, whatever my complaint is about), I’ve acted on my issue.
If nothing changes, I generally continue to lobby and act.
BUT if things don’t change, then and only then, do I have the right to complain.

Denni – as far as I can tell…you are describing “limited federal government” … which is what conservatives are FOR, and what is already in place with the existence of state and local governments. The federal govt should not be the ultimate control because regions are vastly different.

Deficits have generally decreased under liberal presidents. Under Trump the deficit increased $400B BEFORE covid. Military spend was also up. Doesn’t sound like limited government to me.

As someone who does not live in the USA, I still care, deeply, about who becomes President. The eyes of the entire world are watching and we’re all more than concerned about the outcome. In Australia, it is compulsory to vote. I’m glad! It makes people get off their backsides and have a say. If you don’t vote, you’re fined. We have a fabulous universal health care system and top hospital private cover plus other essentials like optical, dental, physio, whatever, costs @3-4 thousand for a couple. Kids are generally covered too, until they’re 25 in most cases. BUT…contrary to what people in the US are told, we’re a strong democracy and far, far from socialist…and we can still provide great healthcare to everyone. Everyone! Watching the pandemic unfold in the US on our TV screens has been horrifyingly devastating. Healthcare?! That is not healthcare. Those frontline workers are stretched beyond belief!! Use your vote! I know that I’ll be researching (i.e. not looking to main stream media, nor social media) the policies and platforms of political candidates on all levels – local and federal government. Yes, I can see how democratic your country is by watching Dan Andrews in Victoria. It gives me great comfort to know Australia coerces people on threat of fines to do things. Why not be forced to vote – perhaps the system itself is flawed, just like the lack of proportional representation in the UK is. The information for Texas is correct! I just want to add that Texas has been ruled against by multiple judges for violating the Motor-Voter act, by not allowing residents to update their voter registration online when they renew their license online. The latest ruling was just last month, but we’ll see if anything is implemented. It’s very frustrating and serves no purpose besides creating obstacles to registering to vote.
In Ohio – I’ve already mailed in my absentee ballot request and received an email that it was accepted and ballots will start being mailed October 6. *thumbs up*

In Pennsylvania, if you have requested to vote by mail, once you’ve completed your ballot you can drop it off at a number of designated ballot collection boxes ( will list the locations) usually they are at city halls or courthouses. You can also drop the completed ballot at your polling place the day of the election. If you vote this way you will not have to worry about our currently overwhelmed USPS not getting the ballot to its final destination on time. Every vote counts, and swing state PA will be close!
