Buckle Up, Rudolph. The sled is taking off EARLY and I’m at the wheel. While my campaign to get the holiday season officially stretched from Nov. 1 – Jan 2nd has not been approved by congress, I know I’m not alone in wanting to avoid the “SMASH” of the most fun season of the year (especially for kids) into one short month. I’m a “start slow and grow” holiday decorator, while others might be more of a “wait … then explode”, or a “little here, little there”. Whatever level of “holiday enthusiast” you are, I hope you feel permission to at least think about decorating early to reduce the stress of the crunch and elongate the fun. Luckily America’s favorite store, Target, is ready for any approach, any style, any room, and today we are going to show you a few different holiday looks, and how they have every style for everyone. We are back celebrating with close friends and family so let’s create a festive and warm vibe for reconnection, no matter what your holiday and family looks like.
The Living Room For The Traditional Holiday Enthusiast
Rug | Embroidered Tree Square Pillow | Coffee Table | Brass Metal Vase | Red Berry Stem | Tray | Gold Tub | Large Birch Bundle
Every year I get closer and closer to having my own red and green explosion and I absolutely get why one opts for a more traditional look. It is unabashedly festive, warm, and feels exclusive to this time of year (versus more of a quiet winter look). For this look, you choose your shade of red and green, punch it up with some gold, and light all the faux or real candles. The background can be super simple – it lets everything else pop. I’m all about ambiance and this is how you get it.
Just Add Glow
Loveseat | Throw Blanket | Side Table | Table Lamp | Mirror | Pine and Berry Garland |Golden Leaf Garland | Stocking | Green Mug | Feliz Navidad Mug | Small LED Tree Candle | Large LED Tree Candle
Good Lighting is CRUCIAL especially if you are like me and live in darkness 16 hours a day – switch on your faux trees (on the coffee table – I’ve had those for 4 years) and plug in all the twinkle lights. This is great no matter what style you have – soft twinkle lighting peppered around your room brings a warmth nothing else can.
Bell Tower House | Square House | Brass Sitting Deer | Metal Candle Holders (set of 3) | Taper Candles (set of 2) | Bottlebrush Tree (set of 3) | Bottlebrush Tree Green (set of 3) | Tall Metal Lantern | Short Metal Lantern | Buffalo Check Bin | Woven Bin | Tree Pillow
Lean into Traditional Tree Elements
Golden Leaf Garland | Wondershop Ornament Set | North Pole Door Ornament | Labrador Ornament | Beagle Ornament | Mouse Ornament | Santa Claus with Wreath Ornament | Dog Ballerina Ornament | Dressed Animals Ornament (set of 4) | Reindeer Ornament
Emily Bowser styled this more traditional look with gold garland, red and green with a few playful elements. She shoved red berries into the tree which was a lovely festive (and traditional) touch.
No Fireplace Mantel No Problem
Gold Botanical Tree | Stocking Holder | Pointer with Striped Stocking Hat Christmas Tree Ornament | Calico Cat with Earmuffs Christmas Tree Ornament | Dressed Bear with Gray Scarf Christmas Tree Ornament | Cat Ballerina with Yellow Dress Christmas Tree Ornament
How cute is this light-up stocking holder? You could put it on a shelf like this, on a mantel (obviously), or even a credenza as I have in the past. The good thing is even if you do have a mantel over a fireplace hanging it elsewhere means you can still light the fire without danger).
Standing Deer | Pine and Berry Garland |Golden Leaf Garland | Metal Wreath
We strung lights through the garland and pepper throughout the little houses with tea lights (real or faux) to keep the glow going.
Snowmen Kraft Gift Wrap | Cats with Hats Kraft Gift Wrap | Fairisle Sweater Gift Wrap Green | Rigid Plaid Gift Wrap Red | Gold Wreath Gift Wrap Blush | Red Stockings Kraft Gift Wrap | 1.5″ Metallic Fabric Ribbon | 1.5″ Fabric Ribbon Red Glitter | 2 End Pom Pom Fabric Ribbon
Tray | Green Mug | Feliz Navidad Mug | Small LED Tree Candle | Large LED Tree Candle
One Snuggly Corner 4 Styles
Swivel Chair | Pouf | Snowflake Shaped Pillow | Throw Blanket
Before we leave the living room we thought it would be fun to show you the breadth of styles that you can choose from this year – even those of you not into the holidays but want it to feel warm and cozy. And please note that EXCELLENT swivel sherpa chair. And it’s a great scale (not too small). I’m very tempted to get it for the mountain house…
Tree Pillow | Chenille Throw Blanket | Woven Milk Crate | Golden Magnolia Garland | Buffalo Check Bin | Ski Stick Figurine | Bell Tower Cream House | Square Cream House | Large Woven Cream Tree | Medium Woven Cream Tree | Embroidered Tree Pillow | Pom Throw Blanket | Deer Ornament | Pine and Red Berry Garland | Fairy Lights | Black Candle Holders | Rope Taper Candle
The Winter Lover (left) – Not into “Christmas” per se but want coziness? We decked out this one with just warm winter whites, greenery, and glow (how cute are those hanging skis?). On the right, we have the same setup with more red/green and for the not-so-shy holiday pillow lover. Just a switch of the garland and added traditional colors.
Feliz Navidad Pillow | Pom Throw Blanket | Forest Fir Figural Ornament Candle | Golden Leaf Garland | Cream Ceramic Tree | Pink Ceramic Tree | Green Ceramic Tree | Candle Holder (set of 3) | Taper Candles (set of 4) | Bottlebrush Tree Set | Angel Tree Topper | Embroidered Doves Pillow | Faux Fur Blanket | Star of David Brass Figural | Modern Menorah | Short Brass Starburst | Tall Brass Starburst | Cast Brass Single Dove Candleholder | Dreidel Hanukkah Garland | Gingerbread Candle | Stout House Decorative Figurine
Target is always seeking to be more inclusive (and for a large major retailer they are doing a FANTASTIC JOB) so not only is there an expanded selection of Feliz Navidad decor, but also their Hanukkah selection (right) is getting better and better. How sweet is that garland? (And you bet that Target has Santa’s of varying skin tones (see below)).
The Less-Traditionalist Yet Still Festive (Color And Pop)
Christmas Tree | Woven Christmas Stocking Red Stripe | Angel with Pink Dress Christmas Tree Ornament | Feliz Navidad Pillow | Pom Throw Blanket |Tree Collar | Evertson Modern Strap Bench Gray | Angel Tree Topper | Tassel Tree Filler/Ornament | Glass Ball Ornament Set
Before we head into the dining room I wanted to show you their selection of less traditional red and green ornaments and decor. Still clearly VERY festive, but feels more playful and fun (if you are into that) – we are.
Angel with Yellow Dress Ornament | Flocked Onion Ornament | Flocked Starburst Ornament | Wondershop Ornament Set | Pink Bow | Red Ribbon | Metallic Ribbon | Gold Bow
Flocked Deer Ornament | Cat with Coat and Scarf Ornament | Yellow Ribbon | Swirl Ribbon | Pink Ribbon| Green Ribbon
The Dining Room – Multiple Styles, All Festive
Table Runner | Napkins | Maize Charger Placemat | Red Rim Dinner Plates | Red Rim Salad Plates | Serving Platter | Faux Berry Branches | Brass Vase
Those holiday berries are an instant dose of color that is so easy to put in a non-holiday vessel, and all of us on set agreed that the simple red-rimmed plates are just enough “holiday” for most people to get into (I can get more holiday than that but I appreciate the restraint).
For a bit more glam, gold never fails. You can snag yourself some gold candlesticks (how great are those doves) or if you are celebrating Hanukkah this is such a pretty Menorah.
Dining Table | Dining Chairs | Dove Candleholder | Glass Saybrook Set | Framed Curved Lines | Cabinet | Footed Serving Bowl | Wreath | Brass Standing Deer | Bell Tower House | Square House
Table Runner | Tree of Life Menorah | Woven Cream Tree | Bottlebrush Set
I love this setup for a formal dining room that you don’t eat at every night but you want it to be festive and styled out (if you aren’t Jewish you can sub in some branches for a centerpiece).
Rug | Large Botanical Tree | Starburst Figurine | Candleholders | Ceramic Houses
Happy Figural | Ice Bucket | Gold Jigger | Gold Bottle Opener | Gold Strainer | Gold Cocktail Stirrer | Wine Glasses | Goblets | Dinner Plates
That plate/flatware and placemat setup is obviously great for all year long too (we have those placemats and love them – so easy to clean and have held up really well). The blue plates are substantial and definitely feel more hefty and expensive than they are. Excellent job, Target.
Bar Cart | Gold Beverage Tub | Red Berry Wreath | Tree | Snowmen Kraft Gift Wrap | Cats with Hats Kraft Gift Wrap | Fairisle Sweater Gift Wrap Green | Rigid Plaid Gift Wrap Red | Gold Wreath Gift Wrap Blush | Red Stockings Kraft Gift Wrap | Metallic Ribbon | Red Glitter Ribbon | Red Bow
Such a good bar cart with really clean strong lines. Dressed up simply with some gold barware and a tree (how cute is that red pom ribbon). DONE. I do however love how Bowser wrapped the bottles with wrapping paper – certainly not a necessity but a great way to give that as a gift.
Gold Fleck Glasses | Cocktail Shaker | Bar Tool Stand | Oh What Fun Embroidered Napkins | Wood Serving Board| Plaid Kitchen Towel | Fairy Lights | Izze Sparkling Beverage | Mixed Berry Kombucha
In The Kitchen
Pink Ceramic Tree | Cream Ceramic Tree | Green Ceramic Tree | Goblets |Merry Everything Serving Platter | Pink Striped Bowl | Red Striped Bowl | Green Striped Bowl | Gold Vase | Large Serving Board | Round Serving Board | Stripe Towel | Cake Stand
I believe strongly in bringing some holiday moments into the kitchen because you spend so much time in there during the holidays. Give yourself something festive to look at. Replace rarely used things (like on the top shelf) with a holiday shelf-scape (yes, we are saying that now) and pepper in some trees throughout.
Dinner Plates | Layering Plate | Mini Wood Bowls | Green Stripe Rolling Pin | Tree Cookie Cutters | Pink Stripe Pouring Bowl | Red Sanding Sugar | Green Sanding Sugar | White Shimmer Sugar
For all you bakers out there the cookie game is hot at Target this year – really cute cookie cutters, rolling pins, and mixing bowls.
Adding a wreath to a window takes up no functional space, and the round shape against a square window is such a pleasing shape.
Oh, she’s so excited – just look at her! So for all of you ready to get the fun going know that Target is ready for you. Their holiday assortment gets better and better every year, and this is just a small portion of it. It’s in-store and online now. Last year a lot sold out early so, no pressure, but if there is something you LOVE don’t wait too long. Let’s start the gathering, the connecting, the game playing, cookie decorating, and listening to holiday music with our closest friends and family NOW. xx

I know this has nothing to do with the Christmas decorations (which are beautiful! Personally I love the fun color pop version) but I would love to know what tile was used for the kitchen backsplash? It looks like zellige tiles but I’m especially interested in the color if you happen to know it. Thanks!
I said below I thought it might be Fireclay 2×6 in Clover, but it might also be Bedrosians Reverie 2×6 in Green. Not 100% sure on either though.
Please tell me you know where that table and chair in the dining room are from! Looking for something just like that!
Are the chairs from Target’s Project 62 Telstar collection? https://www.target.com/p/telstar-seating-collection-project-62/-/A-82472706#lnk=sametab
Is the table from Target’s Project 62 Astrid collection? https://www.target.com/p/astrid-mid-century-round-extendable-dining-table-project-62/-/A-79691467?preselect=54218189#lnk=sametab
Oh, I think you’re right! Thank you!!!
So many fun, interesting and lovely ideas. I plan on putting the gold metal wreath on a mirror…love that look, and the metal wreath is is stock! Emily you look so pretty in the headband…those have developed a niche all their own!
Yep, that little metal wreath looks so sweet! Just ordered one–and a yard of velvet ribbon from etsy to hang it with!
Now I want to start decorating. I’ve long felt a harvest festival (which is what Thanksgiving is) really should be in October or maybe September, when stuff is actually being harvested. Which then clears the playing field to BRING ON CHRISTMAS!
If I start decorating now, I’ll just tell my husband that Emily made me.
Canada 🇨🇦 celebrates Thanksgiving on the 2nd Monday of October.
Completely agree! After the end of October the garden is put to bed, usually, and Thanksgiving at the end of November just doesn’t right….loved living in Canada and having Thanksgiving early!
Love everything from Target. The styling here is superb: every vignette, the cozy layers, the unexpected pink/green/cream trees placed together, the kraft wrapping paper & colorful, non-traditional (ie not red and green) ribbons, every gorgeous Hanukkah option—really it’s all so beautiful & fun. There’s a lightness to looking at it, like I just get to enjoy the pretty things & yet I feel no burden nor expectation to conform.
You all did a great job! It’s like you know what you’re doing 😂
I’m ready & willing for more posts like this 💕
Best Target holiday assortment ever! Ordering so many things before they’re gone!
It’s an interesting post, and if I had more space and could store things off season, I’d have some seasonal “decor”. But with housing being so expensive and hard to come by, I live in a small space and all of my limited storage is barely storing the every day things. What I do for Christmas is decorate with things that don’t need to be stored. I have at least one big poinsettia. By the time the red bracts fall off it’s a nice houseplant. ( I even managed to keep one re-blooming for 3 years until a squirrel dug it up (i.e. killed) it one year when it was sumerring outdoors.) I also cover the inside of the front door with Christmas wrap so it looks like a big present and hang up paper snowflakes around the house. The wrapping paper goes into recycling and if the poinsettia dies, it goes into the compost. I’d love more ideas for how to decorate with things that can be recycled/composted or stored exceptionally compactly and flat like the paper snowflakes. One last thing, I know you need this content to be up before the holidays, because people need to start thinking… Read more »

I have red, green, plaid and ski or cottage themed tea towels, blankets, pillows, mugs, candles, etc. They can be used all year long but when used all at once they look Christmassy.
Thank you, Emily and team for hearing me and adding some lovely and inspiring Hanukkah decorating ideas. Happy holidays to all!
Got two of those pretty gold garlands and tried for the twinkle lights, but they’re out of stock. Thanks for getting us off to a good start on the holiday!
Wow, amazing job!!! Love the trees, garland and twinkle lights!
I love the window wreath. We live in an apartment with our own entryway hopeless to decorate but I think the kitchen window will be wreathed!
Love this post! It’s so inspiring. But did I miss who’s house this is? It’s gorgeous! Would love a house tour.
Love it all! What brand range it that? I love the look!
GE Cafe
Love love love the not Christmas options!!! For those of us who don’t celebrate, it’s hard to find cute inspiration! Thanks. Keep it up!!!
I just love your styles and options you put together 💗💗💗
Love this, especially the difference in ideas for the various decorations and room!
Also, will you PRETTY PLEASE, please let me know the source of the kitchen backsplash tile? The company and color/name, if possible please? This is exactly what we’re looking for and we’re currently in the market.
Thank you!
Possibly Fireclay 2×6 in Clover?
Asking since E points out Target as upping its diversity in its products…anything for Kwanza?
