8 Not Ugly Dog Beds (And The Affordable One I Love Having In My Home)

I had to shop for new dog beds recently because ours were DISGUSTING, likely because we don’t wipe our dog’s feet and we have construction outside (and they were vintage patchwork denim and the pups had been abusing them for 3 years). So after shopping for a while, annoyed at all the patterns I found out there, I found these that I love because where we have them in the house (both in the living room and here in the hallway where they sleep at night) are kinda prominent. So I wanted dog beds that look like nice looking floor pillows, or honestly just anything that wasn’t too ugly or basic.

I found these on Wayfair and they come in a bunch of colors (and includes the inserts). Our pups are medium – large (like not huge, but “medium” feels too small). The stuffed animal sloth (was Elliot’s) is Oscar’s current “baby du jour” – he LOVES taking care of a stuffy.

So far so great – the medium tones hide their hair and can be taken off and washed. The pattern is fun and they came in at $100 which isn’t cheap, but honestly I found almost none that were that I loved for this price (and once you get higher than $150 it feels like a lot when you need two). But there were a lot more that were contenders and I figured if I was in the market for non-ugly dog beds that maybe some of you would be, too. Here you go 🙂

Majestic Washable Pet Bed

This one is definitely bolder with its pattern but also pretty awesome. Love that the pattern orientation is different on the sides. So this one comes in four sizes, has five other colors to choose from and the biggest size clocks in at $87! Cute and pretty affordable.

Signal Dog Bed

This one is for sure more expensive (still under $200), so if you don’t have more than one dog, it may be more doable. I love the two-tone design and if this color isn’t great for your home or your pup’s fur color there are four other color options and don’t worry, it’s machine washable:)

Cleo Corduroy Throw Dog Bed

Who doesn’t want a little corduroy in their home? This one is perfect if you aren’t a big pattern person but want a bed with a little fun texture. Aside from the green, it comes in two more colors (a camel option too for our light-colored dog friends), three sizes, is machine washable, AND water/stain-resistant. A solid pick for a super affordable price. The largest size is only $60!

The Fritz Bed Grande

Maybe you have a more colorful home or you want to add more color, this one is a great option. This photo makes it look green and pink, but it’s actually green and white (although a green and pale pink would be very fun in the right house). But if a color isn’t what you are looking for, it also comes in black and white, has two size options, is washable, water-resistant, and scratch-proof. So a lot of perks which is great since it’s about $180.

Pepper Dog Bed

Now, this one is the most expensive on the list but my is it GOOD. A designer/pet owner’s dream and it’s reversible! I will say that if you have the budget to buy one of these, this is a company you can feel really good about buying from. It’s a queer led company that’s a certified B Corp, making all of their products ethically. The designs and craftsmanship are awesome. This one also comes in one other color, a happy coral and mint combo, and it’s washable.

Red Checkered Bedding

Ugh, I love this color combo a lot. But if red and tan check is not a good fit for you, it comes in a ton of other patterns and four sizes. They also really focused on durability using a “dig-proof knit” as well as making it washable and non-slip. It’s on the higher price end at $189 (with mattress) but is more affordable if you already have a mattress and only need a cover.

The Dog Bed

Lastly, we have another great company doing good things for the world – in their case, they focus on sustainability. This plush bed comes in 5 other colors in this recycled velvet, but they also make the same style in hemp and a hemp blend. The colors are just a bit more limited with those. And because doing things in sustainable ways costs more (hopefully that won’t be the case forever!), this bed is also a bit pricy at $225.

Hope this helped any dog parents/design lovers and see you tomorrow for a very fun spring-themed post. xx

As a person who has a great dane and keeps up to 3 extra dogs a day I highly recommend the pet fusion lounge bed with bolsters. I’ve had one for at least 8 years and the memory foam hasn’t smooshed down at all. I have washed the cover so many times and other than the black scuff bead thingies falling off it has held up perfectly. It’s the best bed in my house. I do like to put fun sheets / vintage blankets over my dog beds, I have 6 in my house, just because they look better to me and you can change it up.

I also think Molly Mutt covers are great. Never had one, but I love the idea of getting a cover and stuffing it full of crappy old pillows, clothes, and linens.

We buy sheepskins for our 50 pound dog from Amazon, one in the kennel and one on the floor. Our last ones were in Linen (pretty color that matches our dog) the “HUAHOO Premium Genuine Sheepskin Rug Linen Real Australia Sheepskin Natural Luxury Fluffy Lambskin”. We machine wash when needed.

Those are all so adorable (and the cute doggies ;-)) Both my dogs love a bed with sides on it, like a little cozy surround to lay their heads on. Is there a reason you didn’t include those models or do your dogs don’t mind/care? Some of those dog beds feels like i need to snuggle with them in it LOL

Love those first beds from Wayfair. Did you get the medium sized beds? May I ask how much your doggies weigh? Our lab is 69 lbs, just trying to figure out what size to get. Thanks!

I love the bed that you chose. But I’m really crushing on your runner. Can you give me more info on that please? Thank you.

Many of our dog beds over the years were from LLBean. They offered memory foam, ooOOoo, which was just what our arthritic shepherd needed. It lasted thru 4 dogʻs lives (sorry, morbid), and was Emily-would-approve-of blue and white striped. Other dog beds came and went, usually eaten by our boxer. The beds with little bolsters, or donut shaped beds were very popular with our dogs. All of the above selects make me want to get another dog.

After going through too many inexpensive (cheap?) beds for our collie Annie, we splurged 3 years ago and got her a Ginger Bed. It was pricey compared to the beds we’d been getting, but 3 years later it’s still in great condition. And the cat likes it too. Sometimes you get what you pay for and we spent more on the inexpensive beds than we did on the Ginger Bed. Unfortunately Ginger Beds went out of business in 2023 because we’d get another one if the current one ever needed to be replaced.

We have an Orvis memory foam couch bed for our 85-pound furbaby. (Our exact one has been discontinued.) Definitely pricey AND completely worth it. The memory foam is supportive (you sink into it – I’ve curled up on it to try it out, lol), and the 3-sided bolster allows my dog to cozy up against the sides. The cover is machine-washable and the fabric is a soft, high-quality, neutral tweed. It’s not a “design moment” but certainly not an eyesore. The best part is that our dog’s name is embroidered on the bed. Ours has lasted 6+ years so far, so we’re not continually replacing it (a win for the environment).

The Foggy Dog makes nice covers and their products are all made in San Francisco, CA. But I would not recommend spending full price on the covers which are about $60-100 for the smallest to largest sizes. But they have an Etsy store where they sell seconds, which are brand new items with slight imperfections which are about half of the website prices.

I bought a 52in. cotton canvas bolster bed cover from LL Bean for our 80lb husky mix for Christmas – just the cover as I wanted to fill it myself with something that didn’t come from a chemistry lab, but it can be ordered with memory-foam type cushions. I had the bottom 6 inches of a latex-topped mattress that I bought off Craigslist (thinking it was all-latex, but in fact most of it was some kind of urethane), which I cut up as temporary fill so he can use it while I have inserts made and figure out how to fill it economically with latex, wool, kapok or the like. Right now it’s in our living room and should blend with our casual farmhouse/victorian/rustic decor, especially once I locate my roll-arm, linen-covered loveseats.
