Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (less than a week away) and although it might be one of those overly commercialized holidays that everybody dreads/loves, there is also no one on the planet that wouldn’t enjoy a little something special from a loved on that day. Yes, Valentine’s is all about celebrating love, romance, and the person you are with. But so many of these ideas, gifts and DIY’s that we have sourced from the internet would be just as appreciated if given to a family member, friend, or someone else dear in your life. So – skip that bouquet of red roses and heart box of chocolates and instead here are a few of our favorites (done by other bloggers or crafters), all of which can be pulled together very last minute.
EATS & TREATS:
They say that the key to someone’s heart is through their stomach, and while we love a good date night out to the most romantic restaurant in town, there is something special, meaningful, and romantic about a homemade meal that you enjoy together. Whether that be breakfast in bed, a picnic for the park, a romantic rooftop dinner (on your own roof), or just a sweet treat for them to take to work in the morning here are some of our favorite ideas rounded up together.
Heart Shaped Waffles
Blushing Pancakes
If waffles aren’t your thing, then these pink pancakes are an easy recipe to surprise them with for breakfast in bed.
Sunny side up Hearts
Oh… don’t forget the heart shaped eggs. These could also be done with some easy to source heart cookie cutters.
Love Filled Pop Tarts
Ditch the conventional store bought pastries for something more special like these heart shaped pop-tarts.
Apple of my eye slices
We can only imagine how cute these would be if they were used in a tart or pie? Gives a new meaning to “eat your heart out”.
Strawberry Roses
Step aside edible arrangements, there is a new edible bouquet in town, and this one includes some very delicious looking strawberry roses.
Watermelon Love Salad
Just when you thought there wasn’t another fruit shaped heart we could include, this fruit salad has some pretty adorable heart shaped watermelon and strawberries.
Mini Pizza Hearts
We love the idea of a date night at home complete with mini-heart pizzas and pepperonis.
Pepperoni Heart Pizza
And if you aren’t the baking type then grab yourself a store bought cheese pizza and some pepperonis and use some scissors to cut them into little hearts and sprinkle them on top.
Red Wine Lovers Pasta
Who knew that boiling pasta in red wine would result in a delicious and romantic treat for the eyes and the stomach.
Napkin Hearts
No date night at home is complete without a heart shaped napkin. This simple folding technique will put the finishing touch on the meal.
Love Letter Cookie
It’s not for everyone but if you are a baker then a hand written note on a hand baked cookie is a sure fire way to show them how much you care.
convo heart cookies
Of course Martha would come up with some pretty cute cookies for V-Day. These are hand stamped and are looking pretty tempting.
SENTIMENTAL & SWEET:
There is no better way to pull at someone’s heartstrings than by giving them something that actually means something and feels heartfelt. All the bouquets of flowers, pink shaped pancakes, bubbly rosé, and monetary gifts won’t matter or feel as special as something that is sentimental and personal to the person that you are giving it to. So here are a few of our favorites that speak directly to the heart – and not by way of food, gifts, or cards. These are the ones that they will remember for many years to come and remind them why you care.
Polaroid City Tour
If you haven’t already explored your city together then there is no better time then on V-Day or that weekend. Wrap up a polaroid camera, a pen, and a simple notebook and enjoy spending the day together taking pictures everywhere and then recording them into a this book.
Love Photo Box
If you are feeling crafty then a little pop-up Photo-Box like this would be a sweet little gift to pull together for them.
12 Pre-Planned Dates
This one can be done so many ways but the concept is – pre plan 12 dates (1 per month) for the year and let them know that you are taking care of everything from scheduling, to planning where and how they are all accomplished. They don’t have to be fancy or expensive dates but the thought behind it shows them how much you care. Often times we get so busy with life that we forget to take time for a “date night” so something like this would be perfect to make sure they don’t get left off the calendar.
Open when cards
We’ve seen this done before and it is just about the sweetest thing ever. It can err a little cheesy but if you take some time and really take it seriously then it will be a special gift. Basically you hand write as many love notes to them as you want, seal them up, and then give them to them. Then they can read them when they need them for things like – “open when you are mad at me”, “open when you are overwhelmed”, “open when you miss me”…
Reasons I like you deck
Grab yourself a deck of cards, then on each write, print or use stickers to let your lover know 1 way you love them – 52 in total. You’d be surprised how creative you have to get once you get into the higher numbers. Make it playful and fun.
Screenshot text book
There is nothing like a walk down digital memory lane. This one is similar to the last one although with this one you would screenshot and then print 52 funny, sentimental, sweet, crazy, loving things you have said to each other.
Sticky Love notes
We’ve seen this done in the mirror in the morning and there isn’t anyone on the planet that wouldn’t love waking up to a mirror full of post-its gushing on how much they love you.
ROMANTIC:
It’s not valentine’s without a little va-va-voooooom. And while we don’t need to go into deep detail of ALL the many romantic things you can do for “your person” (at this point hopefully you know them well enough to know what cranks there engine) here are a few simple but romantic ideas that might score you a few brownie points.
Recreate Your first date
If you have been together for a while then plan out the night to recreate your very first date like Joy and Bob did from OhJoy. There is no doubt you’ll create some new memories and it will be fun to take a trip down memory lane.
Backyard movie night
Cuddles are always appreciated during V-Day especially when they are accompanied by a yummy glass of wine, some buttered popcorn and one of your favorite movies to watch together in your backyard. If you don’t have a projector then you can easily watch it on your laptop as well.
Rooftop Date night
Skip the reservation and instead set up a little al fresco dining on your rooftop for you and your special someone. It’s much more intimate and can be a fun departure from the typical “night out to dinner”.
Couples Cooking class
Brady did this with his BF last year and said that he had so much fun going to a cooking class even if he didn’t know what he was doing. These classes take all the stress out of it and you get to enjoy the dinner afterward together.
At home couples massages
Everyone loves a good massage, and if you aren’t the “massage giver” type person then log into this app to book you and your person a couples massage. They handle everything and just let you relax in the comfort of your own home.
Bubbles and Bubbly
You don’t need to go crazy with this one, but a romantic bath with some candles, essential oils/bathsalts, their favorite beverage and some flower petals in the water is something no valentine will ever turn down. Bonus points if there is room for both of you in there.
DIY & CRAFTS:
If you are feeling crafty then this roundup is for you. Not all are particularly quick or easy, but they are all special, festive, and fun for that special someone.
hidden love note
Plan out something special for them this V-Day by getting a blank puzzle, putting it together, and then writing what you are doing for the date. Then tell them the date isn’t happening until they put it all together. They will slowly figure out what the date consists of as they piece it together and giving it to them a week before will get them excited for the upcoming night.
playful pinatas
Mini Heart Pinatas? If you are feeling crafty then why not. Fill them with their favorites treats, a love note, or a surprise 🙂
fun & floral
If your lover loves a good bath then a homemade soaking or bath salt is something that they will love.
You're the (bath) bomb
This one could go along with the previous one to put together a special “spa at home” package for them.
Punny Cards
Simple, Sweet and Clever. We love these homemade cards that require items that you could quickly pick up at the grocery store and will mean a lot more than a store-bought card.
date night jenga
This easy and playful DIY is a fun one to play over and over. Grab yourself a Tumbling Block game, write reasons you love them on half and then dares on the other half. Whoever pulls out the dare has to do it 🙂 Get creative with your dares to make the night even more fun.
PRETTY PRINTABLES:
The “coupon book of dates/services” has gotten a major update with these printables. And we have included many more that we love for the holiday.
Classic Cards
These could be so fun for friends or your special someone on V-Day.
Heart & Florals
No matter the language, I LOVE YOU is always done best with flowers (even if they are digital).
Love notes
Everyone loves a sweet little love note, so print these out and make them a little bit sweeter.
wrapped with love
This simple printables dress up a bouquet and make it feel a bit more special – even if you did grab the flowers at the local grocer on your way home from work.
sud muffin
Maybe accompanying this with a romantic bath will show your “sud muffin” how much you love them on V-Day.
donut ever let me go
This donut boxes are the perfect little gift for your friends or gals on V-Day.
everyone loves chocolate
For that chocolate lover, wrap their favorite bar in one of these printable wrappers.
my life would suck without you
Everyone loves a little affirmation of how much your life would suck without them in it. This one comes complete with a sucker 🙂
be wine
Their favorite bottle of bubbly or wine is never a bad idea on V-Day. Dress it up with these simple labels.
If you guys have any other good last minute sentimental and special gift ideas that we didn’t include be sure to leave them below.

I m totally agree with you that now a days, Valentine’s Day has been hi-jacked for commercial reasons, resulting in throngs high cost gift items. But still many people give importance to time, care, love and diy gifts over monetary gifts. Some best DIY gift https://www.aryanflorist.com/blog/2017/10/04/5-easy-to-make-diy-gifts-for-your-boy-friend/
