How To Style Your Bed

Recently I’ve been obsessed with those cooking videos on Facebook, despite the fact that I have no intention of ever cooking anything. But it made me think – what if we could do the same thing with style and design? So, a few weeks ago when we pulled together this guest room makeover, we also put together this quick little video all about how to style the perfect bed.

Now, I am in NO way saying this is what I do every morning to my own bed. I have two toddlers, a full time job, and on a good day/night there is actual sleep happening in my bed. But if you’ve got a a guest room with a bed that doesn’t get nightly use, or say, a magazine shoot happening in your bedroom, having a nicely made-up bed can help the room look pulled together and clean.

What do you guys think? Are you into these mini-styling videos? What other things would you like to see? Let us know in the comments. And if you like the video, head over to my Facebook page to give it a “like.” If you want to share the videos then thats cool, too. Also on Monday I’m doing a Facebook Live with Orlando where we are cruising around his Orcondo now that it’s all finished. In case you don’t know about FB Live, it’s live but you can watch it anytime forever, whereas Periscope is only live for 24 hours. So head on over and check it out. Yesterday we debuted a video of how to choose the perfect lamp for your dresser that you can check out if you are into that.

Let us know what else you’d love to see . . . your style wish is our command . . .

I love it! I’d love to see a how-to-style a bookcase for the actual book lover. And I’m not sure if this counts but I’d love to know how to create a balanced color palette for a space.

Seconding the color palette. I have SO MUCH trouble trying to come up with something that looks pulled together.

Yes! I think I’m reasonably good at styling, given enough time, but anything I put on a mantel ALWAYS just looks like a random long line-up of things :/

This is awesome!! Yes, please- more videos!
Ideas:
How to style a sofa
How to set the table (where to put runners, placemats, candles, etc)
Bookcase help
Nightstands
Bathroom spa
TV/media stand
Curtains

…my scroll goes on for miles.

I LOVE your videos! Takes me back to the good old days when I watched you on Secrets of a Stylist. And I can’t wait for Orlando to make an appearance soon! Oh, yeah–I’ll most definitely be watching.

Something I’m interested in you making a video about: How to NAME your style. Yes, your book does a great job of helping you whittle that down, but I’d love to hear you explain it (I’m an auditory learner, I guess!).

This is such a great idea! I don’t know if this is good for your styling videos, but I would love to see how you would hang art on a long wall of rectangular living room /dining room. I have a sofa and dining table against that wall and I have struggled with styling the wall.

I love those facebook videos! This is such a fun idea, keep them coming!

I will watch any video you create, but my favorite part are the tips, like “flaps inside” for the pillows. That would be my main takeaway.

I think I’ve watched all of your videos lately on FB and Periscope. They’re helpful, entertaining, and give a more inside view of the process. I’d love to see more!

What I’d be into: coordinating lighting in an open concept home (chandelier/pendants in a dining/entry/living room), coordinating new features in an older home, how to decorate BIG walls… or maybe those are just the challenges I’m facing and totally need help to solve them 🙂

Great idea for the styling video… I think I’ll have to find myself a small rectangular throw pillow for my bed. Another good styling video might be how to arrange a living room- how far love seats and sofas should be from each other, how to arrange around a corner fireplace, how to minimize the tv, etc.

Haven’t seen any of the cooking videos on Facebook, but I’ve heard that they’re a hit from many people. Love this little play on it for design! Could you please provide some tips for styling a bookshelf and also how to select the right size artwork for a space?

I love this video and I saw the lamp one too. Great tips, and I like that there is text on the screen so I can watch, enjoy, and not get in trouble at work! (or not have my kid run over and say “what are you watching, can i watch?!)

Yes! I love this! I am forever bringing home pillows for the bed and returning them because it still doesn’t look good. I now know what to search for.

I’m all for these short video’s, please continue!

LOVE this! I especially love the little comments, such as “small patterned sheets”. Would love to see this in all sizes of beds. ALSO, would love to hear about how to think about furniture placements in rooms that don’t have 4 walls. We have an office/reading nook that has 1 functional wall (others: one is open, one is a large window and one has a closet door. We also have a “common area” at the top of the stairs with one wall (the other is a railing and two sides open. Hmmm, these questions are pretty specific, maybe I should look into hiring your e-styling-services! 🙂

Yes! These vids are great – quick, simple and replicable! And I might actually do them, versus the Tasty vids I love to watch but will never do.

Thanks for this. Would love to see something about the dos and don’ts of mixing woods (Floors vs. Furniture vs. Shelves, vs. my eyes) When to match when to contrast, in what finishes, etc. This is a hard one for me so guidance would be greatly appreciated.
