The Link Up: Em’s All-Time Favorite Swimsuit Is BACK, Caitlin’s Most Recent MOTO Buy, And A Wildly Special Kid’s Room

Happy Sunday to all!! We’re here to say two quick things before we get going: 1. As a mostly LA-based team we’re happy the rams won the Superbowl (sorry Bengals fans) and 2. We probably won’t bring up football again until the next Superbowl (maybe). We’ve got a lot of fun links for you so let’s hop on in:

This week’s home tour is an insanely warm and cozy Melbourne treehouse-esque home. Em sent it to our team earlier this week and her exact comment was “Woah. This house tour.” There’s not much more to say beyond that because we are speechless. Okay, you twisted our arm, The WARMTH of this place. If you ever thought you could have too much wood the answer is you can’t. And this is proof.

My favorite swimsuit of all time is BACK. She is supportive, she is forgiving, she is a fun pattern that doesn’t show everything underneath if you know what I mean. It’s 1/2 one piece and 1/2 bikini. I might even get another one just in case I lose my first one – IT’S THAT GOOD. I know that every body is different but if you like a supportive bra + have tummy sensitivities I can attest that this one is great.

Framebridge created a Black Artist Shop that lets you shop awesome prints & support Black artists simultaneously. What’s not to love!?

From Mallory: This is the best vintage floor lamp dupe I’ve probably ever seen. I’m obsessed with the gentle curve of her spine, her pleated shade, and that gorgeous natural wood…the best part is she’s only $279 which is a great deal when compared to a lot of the vintage versions I’ve seen on Etsy/Chairish/1st Dibs that are $500 and up.

Also from Mallory: Do you like having flowers in your home but hate that they’re constantly dying?? For a more “everyday” floral, try these. I noticed Em had them in her house a while back so I bought some and they make me so happy every day. I hate having empty vases where flowers should be, but I hate dead flowers more, so these are great because you don’t have to deal with either problem!! Plus they look fun and whimsical and yellow happens to be my favorite color :)

From Ryann: I am on a quest to find leggings that don’t slip down when I do even the slightest amount of active movement. I haven’t had much luck yet except for these that I bought almost two years ago. They are pretty affordable at $50, extremely high-waisted which helps but they are also very comfortable, stretchy, yet hold their integrity well. I will probably buy a few more because I know I like them, but am open to other brand suggestions!

From Caitlin: I just ordered this tiny little glass lamp for my kitchen reveal (coming this year!) and I’m so excited that I finally found something that’s petite enough to fit on my countertop! I’ve been hunting forever for something that’s sub-11″ (my upper cabinets are enormous and weirdly close to my counters), easy to clean (wanted something that I could just dust with a wet towel!), and fairly minimal (to no one’s surprise, there’s a lot going on in the kitchen already). Can’t believe it was under $40 and pretty universally highly rated, too. It’s fun to find a great deal!! (PS. Urban has been surprising me lately with so many good, affordable finds! Their whole sale section is 30% off right now – highly recommend taking a peek if you’re on the hunt for the perfect finishing touch!)

From Jess: The time has come for my first bachelorette weekend since the before times. While I’m still a bit nervous, I’m also unbelievably excited to get my butt next to a pool, frozen cocktail in hand. Last year, I luckily got my swimsuit options dialed in (expect my god do I want this suit). So now I need to get a good cover-up. I want cool and chic. This one from Madewell and this one from Revolve seem like it fits the bill (and if I were rich, this one). Has anyone tried these or have any other recs? I’m all ears.

Also From Jess: You need to see how unbelievable this kids room is by Forbes Masters.

That’s all for this week! See y’all tomorrow! xx

Ryann – have you tried Girlfriend leggings before? My high-waisted leggings stay put, and they’re ethically made from recycled water bottles :) love em.

I had such high hopes for these but they still sag on me! Same with Grrrrl and Sweaty Betty and Lululemon ?

I wasn’t thrilled with Lululemon, Zella, or Girlfriend but my holy grail has been Athleta! Awesome pockets, durable fabric and have held up well to exercise and washing in our building’s notoriously rough commercial washing machine.

Jumping in here to share what I’ve learned about leggings. I have a big belly, small legs (picture Gru) so literally the WORST body to fit for leggings that don’t slide down. And what I’ve learned is they ALL do until you sweat! So if you’re working out, start with some cardio to get some sweat goin’ and then most brands won’t budge! kinda gross, but I promise it works!

Gas station bathrooms near me all have similar stacked square tiles with dark grout so I associate that look with dirty bathrooms. Any time this look is employed in home design, I’m surprised at how strongly negative my reaction is. Is this just me? It was an otherwise very interesting space. Who wouldn’t love a tree house?

Too funny! I don’t think I’ve ever been in a gas station bathroom but I see your point, at least for spaces we expect to be super clean.

Doing “Fire Safety February”. Replaced hardwired fire alarms w/ new units, checked all smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, low level carbon monoxide detectors, kitchen fire extinguisher and bought new fire extinguishing aerosol spray cans that seem easier to use than a fire extinguisher (easier to store too as smaller than an extinguisher).
-
-Home Depot Kidde 10 Year Worry-Free Plug-In Carbon Monoxide Detector with Battery Backup, Digital Display, and Voice Alarm
-Target First Alert AF400 EZ Fire Spray Fire Extinguishing Aerosol Spray
-Target First Alert DHOME1 Designer Home Multipurpose ABC Rechargeable Fire Extinguisher Gray
-Expensive carbon monoxide detectors but detect as low as 5 ppm vs ~70 ppm for cheaper CO detectors (the health affects of low level CO exposure are really bad…if you are able, I urge you to spend the money on low level CO detectors) –

Great idea KJ. For those renting apartments, this is a good reminder to get a fire extinguisher! One of my friends was surprised to see one under my kitchen sink recently. In many places the landlord is required to have them on the property and to provide smoke alarms but it’s your job to put a fire extinguisher in your unit and to check and replace batteries in the alarms.

Ryann, I’ve given up on the leggings that don’t sag down quest in favour of workout JUMPSUITS! It’s an annoyance when you have to go to the bathroom, but it’s so worth it to always stay firmly belly-covered during downward dog (or lounging or errands or anything else). The Gary one by Sweaty Betty is what I have multiples of, but I just noticed a Nike Yoga Jumpsuit that I’m gonna try next. (Sorry no links but hopefully easy enough to search.)

Jess, check out the J Crew linen cover ups that are like a shirtdress but beachier!

Miami Fitwear has the best leggings hands-down. Expensive but worth it! Also female-owned and made in the US.

My 2 favorite coverups that I’ve had for several years (I live at the beach year round, so they hold up well & the first even has pockets):

But also check out Lily Pulitzer – mostly fun bright prints, but very well made & timeless (regardless of the loud prints lol). Have fun!!

Ryann- I resisted buying Lululemon’s for the longest time but I finally caved about two years ago. Yes, they are expensive and I felt a little ( or a lot) cliche when I first purchased them. I am a stay at home mama and a part time yoga teacher. Nothing has held up for me the way the Lulu’s have. They are popular because they are worth it and they last- even when I don’t do the best job taking care of them (drying them in the dryer). Good luck on your quest!
