It seemed rude to go all winter without letting at least part of my team experience the polar vortex, so I stole some of them for a fun executive retreat in Minneapolis for a day of top-secret Target stuff.
So the posts that we had scheduled and drafted for tomorrow weren’t totally ready because our fingers are actually frozen. And we have no internet. 🙂
Come back tomorrow for a proper post (likely something on marriage or maybe a reveal—you choose), but meanwhile say hi to Arlyn, Sara, Michael and me from cold but awesome Minneapolis. Oh, and if you’re craving some actual design content, maybe take a stroll through our Rooms page to pass the time. Xx
Marriage!
aaaaaaaaaaaaye looks like a great work trip!
Reveal!
Michael was not ready for the vortex with that coat…. hah!
Ha, I live in Minneapolis and the weather the last few days has been amazingggg for us! The 20s basically feel like summer after the last few weeks. Enjoy your time here!
I couldn’t agree more. We live in western NY and the 20’s feel like a HEATWAVE!
Fellow Midwesterner—I laughed at Emily’s description. -6 as a high with windchill of -45 was COLD. Now it’s basically balmy! 🙂
Another Minnesotan here. Couldn’t agree more about our current heatwave. My preschooler keeps taking off his hat, gloves, and long-sleeved shirts because he is “too hot”.
Haa, I’m also in Minneapolis and totally agree! And the sun is even out today, so it’s basically spring.
reveal 🙂
Welcome to Minneapolis! Hope Target is treating you all well. We have a rocking craft cocktails scene and craft beer of course. Try Vikre gin before you leave town. It’s divine. Glad to see proper coats, if not boots, on your team.
Oh my gosh, fellow Minneapolis girl here. I had the SAME thought about the foot-wear! But of course they probably don’t own giant snow boots.
Also, Emily, if you have time and you’re still here try to get into Spoon and Stable, the food is divine.
Highly recommend Spoon & Stable! Had my wedding dinner there. 🙂
Also, the burger at Parlour bar cannot be beat – plus their cocktails are great.
OH good to know, thank you. Hopefully we’ll have time to check it out 🙂
Thank you xx good to know re Vikre gin!! I love do love a good cocktail 🙂
Vikre’s Spruce gin is basically the embodiment of our northern shore (Lake Superior) and is my favorite. Tattersall is also amazing. The small ones, Like Copperwing, are worthwhile but not so easy to get to if you are staying downtown, but if they put you up near West End then totally hit it up.
YESSS Copperwing. (they’re a few blocks from me). They have the best French 75 I think i’ve ever had…
Marriage tomorrow (it IS Valentines Day after all 😉
Welcome! Come back in August and take a trip to one of our lakes and you’ll understand why we put up with our winters. Stay warm!
Hah, the Polar Vortex is long gone! Poor Californians experiencing weather us midwesters are all too happy with. In the 20’s? Basically a heat wave! Hope you had fun and dresses warm enough!
Hey Emily! Will you do a post someday (soon) about how to design a teenage boy’s room? Pretty please? Teenage boys rooms are totally underrepresented in the design world and I am totally struggling to put together a room for my son that he likes and that I can live with.
Haha, have fun in the evil snow!! I left Michigan after 12 years and finishing college to return to the southwest and have nevar regretted it. Reveal please – I like your occasional personal posts but am in the mood for decor ATM.
Welcome to Minnesota! Now that it’s warmed up, it’s so beautiful!
Just like all the other Minnesotans commenting- this made me giggle. Silly Californians – a polar vortex is when is NEGATIVE 20 degrees not positive. Hope you enjoyed our beautiful city!!
HA. Living in LA has made me a little bit weak 😉
Omg- you can spot the Californians a mile away, get some boots on your feet! Seriously, MSP is great but it gets old fast if you aren’t dressed for the weather.
HA you caught me.. ?
Eh, can you rent them? Because I’m sure not going to buy something I’d wear maybe three days every other year!
Mawage, pweez. And wuv. Twoo wuv! (Happy Valentine’s Day to all the Princess Bride fans)
Random question/comment about living rooms 😉 for Emily:
say you have a sectional in there. and along with the sectional, say facing it, but off to one side, like kitty corner. is there any kind of hard and fast rule that the heights of the sectional and the accent chair have to be the same? Like, what if you have a low sectional and a tall Danish modern lounge chair?
Yay or nay?
Digging that outfit Emily!! Hope it gets featured in a “what you put on your body” post.
Stay tuned… 😉
Um. I’d like to see a deconstruction of your outfit above (cool sweater, cool pants, cool boots, button-up shirt peeking out). It’s winter-bundled perfection! Especially for all of us who live with snow on the ground for months at a time. By February every year, I’m in a complete creative slump with winter outfits…..and at least 2 months to go until Spring. So tell me about that sweater!!! 🙂
Ooohhh…I’ve been dreaming of a Emily Henderson x Target line FOREVER! Please be that!!
A reveal AND a marriage post tomorrow please. My toddler is inspiring me to always, always ask for whatever it is that I want these days ?
Button your coat, Emily, and get some meat on those skinny legs or you’ll freeze. Love, your mom. (Readers, I am not her mom.)
Walk like a penguin, Californians!
Emily, who makes your cutie sweater and hat??
the sweater is from Mille and I bought the hat in a panic at the airport 🙂
Okay, if you want to do a marriage post go for it but I won’t be reading that one. Thanks but no thanks.
Oh if you can, go eat at Tilia and have the butterscotch pudding. You will never forget it!!
We tried to go there last night but the reservation times didn’t work for our schedule. 🙁 So bummed because a few people from Target HQ also recommended it.
It’s not that cold here in Minneapolis, you just need to thicken your blood. Go to Matt’s Bar for a Jucy Lucy, Tony Jaro’s For a Greenie and take a spin on the rotating patio at Betty Dangers.
