In response to your “What is going on with inflation?” query, here’s the real answer. Inflation is slowly coming down, though it isn’t quite down to what we’d consider “normal” yet. But two things are going on that are making prices stay higher than we want them to be: the first is that corporations don’t lower their prices back to pre-inflation levels once things cool off. These prices are the “new normal,” unless, of course, enough people refuse to buy products and corporations see they have to decrease prices to make their quotas. The second thing is connected: corporations see inflation as an opportunity to make a ton of money and let everyone blame the government (which does not set or control prices) instead of them. Exxon Mobil made $55.7B in profit in 2023. Apple made $99.8B. Home Depot made $22.46B. Hope this helps!
Hi Hillary. I just wanted to say that not all corporations are having a bonanza right now. Some might be, but some are really struggling, I know, because my son works for one of them and is holding his breath about his job. It’s so easy to see corporations as evil, and I’m sure not saying that they are lily white, but at the end of the day they employ people who need those jobs.
It is high time we break our habit of shopping for unnecessaries.
