This year we started doing our “Style School” GIFs, which are basically little videos that we create to teach you how to style. I love them because they’re easy to digest, easy to follow, and easy to replicate. Here are some of our favorites from this year.

How to Add Style to a Neutral Living Room – We made this video when I was moving out of our old home and staging it to sell (which we did a whole series on). It’s light, neutral and so welcoming:

How to Pull Together a Color Palette – Designing a room can be an overwhelming task for a lot of people, so it helps to break it down. Picking a color palette is the first step in a designing a room and will make your life so much easier when choosing your accessories. Check out the GIF we made showing you exactly how to do it with my family room that I styled to sell for our old house:

How to Style a Calm Room with a Bold Statement – It’s no secret that I love a bold statement in a room. I put a forest in Birdie’s room and a literal circus in Charlie’s nursery. Still, bold is best when met with neutral components so everything in the room isn’t fighting for attention. See how I changed Birdie’s forest nursery into a calming guest room:

How to Style a Cute and Functional Playroom – I know just as well as any parent how messy the tiny humans we love can be. I swear mine are extra messy on purpose. So with this little’s girls playroom we set her (and her parents) up to have a fun space that was easy to keep organized:

How to Bring Color, Style, and Fun to a Little Girl’s Nursery – We are no stranger to colorful rooms, and Brady designed his niece’s (big girl) room to be just that. Color, fun, AND style are all possible for a kid’s room, see how:

How to Style a Simple Mantle – Mantles are often the focal point in a room and can easily be over or under styled. Too many knickknacks over crowd and look messy. But leaving it almost bare is a wasted opportunity to bring personality and style to your room. Balance is key and we show you how with this very cool living room’s mantle we designed for the Silver Lake Hills home:

How to Add Your Personality to a College Dorm Room on a Budget – College is a time to explore your creativity and express yourself right? We say YES and with this very cool style GIF we show you how to add your personality to your dorm room with some awesome DIY tricks. Best of all it’s budget friendly:

Bring Your Patio Back to Life – It’s easy to neglect an outdoor space. You just throw in a table and some chairs and call it a day. But it doesn’t really take much to make your outdoor space as fun and special as your indoor spaces. In this post we teach how via a style GIF to easily bring your patio back to life so you can enjoy those last few summer nights in style:

How to Add Eclectic Style to Your Contemporary Home – Even if the architecture of your home is contemporary, that doesn’t mean you can’t bring in a more eclectic vibe. Just like you would jazz up a little black dress with a vintage necklace, you can kick up your more modern couch with a fringe pillow and patterned throw blanket:

3 Ways to go Global with Target – Target has seriously been killing it with all of their patterned and textured homewares lately and we can’t get enough! In this style video we show you how to go global whether your style is contemporary, traditional or a little lux and glam:

How to Curate a Neutral Collection – Neutral does not have to mean boring. When done right it’s actually the opposite. When our former assistant designer, Mel, did her “Makeover, Takeover” she took staying neutral to a whole new level. We decided we had to show you how it was done with a gif all about how to curate your own neutral collection:

How to Style a Kid’s Daybed – Being a mother of two quickly growing children I am getting lots of practice styling kids’ beds (I will be teaching them as soon as possible). However, styling a daybed is actually super fun because it’s almost like styling a sofa. But with a kid’s daybed you can have a lot more fun playing with bright colors and plush animals. Shouldn’t all kid’s daybeds have a pink plush flamingo? Probably. Check out how we turned Charlie’s old nursery into a “big kid” room:

How to Style Open Shelves & The Kitchen Reveal Post – Putting it all out there can be real scary, and you start to feel exposed with nowhere to hide. Fear no more because in this style GIF we teach you how to love your open shelving (if you’re brave enough to install them in the first place). Filling them up with everyday essentials, pretty accessories and lots of organization:

How to Style a Reading Nook & Ginny’s Living Room Reveal Post – It’s hard to find time in our crazy schedules to sit down and read a book. But I used to do it all. The. Time. So to help battle this I believe that having a cozy spot in your house to curl up with a good book is key. When our former design director, Ginny, designed her living room she made sure to have a reading nook, and look how cute it is. We decided to show you how she did it with a style GIF so you too can read in style too:

How to Style Your Coffee Table – Like mantles, coffee tables are the perfect place to easily show off your style and personality with a few great accessories. Although simple to us, we got a lot of requests asking us how to achieve that perfectly styled coffee table. Your wish was our command and with a few quick tricks you too can have a beautifully styled coffee table:
That’s a wrap! We hope that you love and find these “Style School” GIFs super helpful. We love hearing what you need and want help with, so let the suggestions roll in.

The videos aren’t bad and they’re enjoyable, but I do prefer the photo-heavy step-by-steps. I guess I’m just old-fashioned about how I like to view and consume content (#Xennial). Keep up the good work!
Emily, I love love LOVE your blog and visit it every day, but I would love to see some new content. I feel like there’s been a lot of recycled content lately that I’ve already seen. I will continue to visit your blog daily since I love it, but am looking forward to some new content!
The team is taking the week off from new content on the blog. She mentioned there will be new content as of next Tuesday (if I’m not mistaken).

Em, I love when you post pages of your favorites. Have any favorite suggestions for open shelves?
My kitchen has all open shelving so I am soooooo grateful for that video. I was feeling a little overwhelmed by the styling task. Thanks for knowing my life:)
