Happy Holidays from the Hendersons

Emily Henderson Happy Holidays

Well folks, its been quite a year and moreover quite the month. That pic was taken 18 hours before I gave birth and it just represents the beginnings of our family and how happy I hope we are going to be. So, this is us signing off for the holidays. I’ll be back in January with lots of house redo posts (I’ve been reading your comments like ‘whats happening with your house?????‘). I’ll be blogging about it room by room including before photos, mood boards, layout options, color boards, furniture choices, … everything. I’m basically making myself my dream/nightmare client and you guys are going to witness every decision or indecision. So get ready.

A quick thank you so much to everyone who stops by every day to read, comment and share. You have no idea how much I appreciate it and it keeps me doing this every day. I get asked all the time if I still love blogging and the answer is truly YES, but there are days that I wouldn’t be as motivated if nobody read it. You fuel my desire, creativity and motivation to spend hours a day here. You make it rewarding and worthwhile. So thank you very, very ,very much.

Until January 1st i’ll be hanging out with two pretty cute dudes named Brian and Charlie and two cats named Bearcat and General Meow, doing practically nothing except having the happiest of holidays ever.

Peace out. xx

You make blog reading fun Em! Looking forward to lots of befores and afters of the new place. Merry Christmas! Enjoy that new little dude-

    • Emily

      Thanks, K. xx

  2. Raven

Charlie is possibly the cutest baby on the planet! So glad your little family is so blissful and healthy right now. Enjoy the boys and the cats! Cant wait to read about all your adventures next year…

    • Emily

AH, Thank you! I had no idea how obsessed i could be with a face. He could be the ugliest thing on the planet and it wouldn’t matter for one second – i’m sure i wouldn’t even notice. Its just an obsession. xx

  3. jeannette

merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night.

  4. Happy Holidays Emily! I am sure this will be one of your best! Wishing you nothing but love and peace these next few days and an even better 2014!

    • Emily

      xx thanks :)

  5. Mari

Thanks for all the wonderful posts! You give me lots of inspiration to keep my home looking sassy as I juggle a career, 3 kids and my husband’s busy schedule (another cute home grown Fair Oaks boy :) ). Happy Holidays to you and yours and best wishes for 2014!!

    • Emily

Um, very good on you for juggling soooo much. And from Fair Oaks? Those are some goooood boys. ONe of my best friends randomly married a fair oaks boy, too, that just happened to know my husband. Its a good place. :)

  6. Donette

I read every post you write, but rarely, if ever, comment. Thanks for all the beauty you bring to my world! I hope you and your lovely family have the merriest of Christmases and enjoy your break to snuggle that precious baby of yours!!!

    • Emily

Thank you so much for commenting, honestly. I live for them. The more comments = the more I think that people like a post which directly changes what/how i post about. so thank you so much for commenting. And yes, i’ll be snuggling the poop out of Charlie. :)

  7. I so enjoy reading your posts every day and taking inspiration from them! Merry Christmas to you and your gorgeous family!

    • Emily

      Thank you!

  8. Giuliana

Thank you Emily for taking the time to educate, inspire, share your amazing talent and now your beautiful family pics with us. You brighten up my day and inspire me every day to make my house a home. Have a Wonderful Christmas with Hubby and your Beautiful Baby Boy (and your fur babies). Until next year. All the best!!

    • Emily

THANK YOU. These/your comments make it all worth it, i’m not kidding. Brian asks me all the time how I keep doing it and I say ‘you would do if you got this kind of support and love from people’. It really helps. So thank you. xx

  9. Lauren

I, too, enjoy your posts everyday. Your creativity and energy is contagious. Enjoy your holidays.

    • Emily

Thank you. What a compliment to say that my energy online is contagious. Not sure if its true, but I’LL TAKE IT!!

  10. Happy Holidays and thanks so much for sharing through your wonderful, funny and most of all inspiring blog – it’s such a treat to follow. Enjoy your well deserved time off. Looking forward to another great year ahead!

    • Emily

      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
      and
      x :)

  11. emily

Can’t wait to see the house! Congrats on a great year.

  12. Merry Christmas! Just know that I’m always reading even if holding a baby makes it hard to comment! Congrats again on little Charlie, he is just the cutest. And I cannot wait to see house posts! I’m decorating my new house too (slowly as the budget permits) and I need all the inspiration I can get!!

    • Emily

I’ll have to learn how to type while holding a Charlie. The poor kid is going to grow up to the sound of my typing, but could be worse :)
Thanks so much for reading and commenting. xx

  13. Tracy

Emily, I love, love, love your blog, your home, and your family. I don’t think I’ve ever commented before, but want to say happy holidays to you and your “new” family. Your blog keeps me inspired and for that, I am thankful.

    • Emily

THANK YOU for commenting. I rarely comment on other peoples blog so i understand what it means when people do. THANK YOU for reading first and foremost and commenting today, too. It really means a lot. xx

  14. Melanie Price

Have a beautiful Christmas with your new family. Take it all in…it goes by oh so fast!!
And I cannot wait for your new posts!! Cheers to a wonderful Christmas and New Year!!

    • Emily

ITs so funny, everyone says it goes by so fast so i’m literally just staring and appreciating every second, trying to take everyones advice. I can’t believe how much I love this newborn stage considering every time I hung out with a newborn before i was pretty bored. If it gets better (which everybody says it does) then i may explode with happiness. xx

  15. Paula

Emily have the most wonderful of all holidays! I was sitting with my precious now 3 year old little boy this morning at breakfast chatting and I thought of you and all the brilliant joys of motherhood you have ahead. Love the blog, love your style it has inspired me all over my home. Thank you!

    • Emily

      Thank you thank you. xx

  16. Anthony Amiewalan

I love readying your post! You are so talented. Will you ever go back to HGTV? I miss your show and it seems like remodeling your home would be perfect for TV. Anyway, I hope you and your beautiful family enjoy the Holiday Season!

    Cheers

    • Emily

EH, not sure. As soon as they realize that people want design shows again :) But thank you. And until then i’ll keep doing the makeovers on the blog. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. xx

  17. Julie

    Happy Holidays to y’all!

I have a blog post idea: At what point in pregnancy do you start wearing the belt under the boobs? I’m 6 months but it’s not big enough to constitute the belt so I’ve just got the thick-waist mass going on.
-Just an idea. You could show us your pregnancy style role models if there were any. I’m feeling very blessed to be pregnant at the same time as Gwen Stefani but her closet is out of my league. And I’m not insane enough to wear high heeled boots constantly like she does.

Happy new year! We’ll anxiously await your return. xox

  18. Victoria

I came to your blog late but I think I’ve finally managed to read every post. They are habit forming. Every past post I read made me want to continue reading. Now I feel a little guilty if I don’t comment like others will not know how read and loved your blog is. Which leads back to you someone most of us don’t know but love like the favorite character in a book you don’t want to end because you’ll miss her voice and story. Looking forward to your continued chapters.
Have the most wonderful of holidays with your family. Read you in the New Year.

    • Emily

AHHH, thank you. I love that you read some of the hilariously bad old posts, but they are all part of the experience i suppose. Thank you for commenting. I’m not a huge commenter either so I really appreciate it when people take the time to do it. And hopefully you’ll never have to miss the voice and story :)

  19. Cheryl

Wishing one and all a very Merry Christmas, a quiet, grateful heart and love, all around.

  20. Your blog is my absolute favorite! I love that you share so many special moments in your life and I’m looking forward to lots of house and baby posts in the New Year! I also have to say thank you for all of the pregnancy experiences you have shared. I am 19 weeks, with a boy!, so I’ve been soaking up all the wisdom I can get :)
Your loyal reader and fan, Melissa

    • Emily

CONGRATULATIONS! Its truly been the best 2 weeks of my life, which is different for everyone, but man this baby thing is magical. I’m so excited for you. And thank you for reading/sharing/commenting. xx

  21. Virginia

My first comment but feel compelled to say that as a new “empty nester” enjoy every minute, every stage, every year. As a wise woman told me “the nights are long, (but) the years are short” : )

Also, love your blog and style. You’re an inspiration!

    • Emily

Thank you so much for commenting, Virginia. It means a lot. And i love that phrase … xx

All the best wishes in the world to you and your beautiful family for a happy holiday season and the best ever 2014! From Melbourne, Australia.

As someone who has been a reader since The Brass Petal I can say you are still the first blog I read every day. I’m glad you still enjoy writing it and I look forward to seeing what you do with your new house in the coming year. In the meantime ,enjoy some well deserved down time as you celebrate the holidays with your adorable little boy!

  39. Beth

Emily- I read every one of your posts- early in the morning, late at night- whenever you share something- it brings inspiration and usually a great laugh to my day! Thank you for teaching me SO much about design- I have learned ALOT from you and try (try) to bring the visions into my own home and sometimes to my friends. I would love to be brave enough to be a designer full time. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you until I can get the courage to take the leap. And your Charlie is totes adorbs… so happy for you! Happy holidays! Can’t wait for 2014!

  40. Rebecca

So glad you are taking some time off during this special time to enjoy your new family! Time is something you can never get back, so don’t waste a minute of it. Reading about the arrival of your little one has brought great memories back to me, and for that I thank you. We can get so busy in our lives that we forget what makes life so wonderful – and memories are made to be remembered :) It amazes me that I feel I have gotten to know you through your blog. But from all of the comments I see I am not alone. I especially love your sense of humor. Enjoy the boys, the cats and the new home this holiday! You are truly blessed :)

  41. Jihane

    Dear Emily,
I’m spending the holidays in the (amazing) dominican republic : I
refuse to check my mails/whatsapp/facebook but I didn’t even try to resist checking your blog. I wanted to let you know that I truly admire you, the way you write (it’s always funny, super honest and refreshing) and the way EVERY space you transform becomes full of joy, creativity and peace. I am so happy for you and I am sure that your well deserved happiness is gonna make you even more talented and inspired that you already are. I wish you and Brian and Charlie and the cats (can’t forget the cats!) the best holidays!

  42. Katie

    Emily-
I have loved reading your blog over the past few years, but this year has to have been my favorite. I love how you incorporate your personal life and career in one place, but my favorite has been following your pregnancy. I, too, had my first baby this year, a little girl. We are loving every minute and I am so excited to celebrate this first Christmas with her. You are absolutely amazing and inspiring the way you have continued life with a newborn; I followed the “you sleep when the baby sleeps” mantra and was not myself for the first few weeks. The first two months were hard, but once we got the hang of nursing its been smooth sailing every since. Enjoy your down time with your family and I look forward to reading about you, Charlie and all your adventures in 2014!

  43. Paige

Merry Christmas and congrats on little Charlie! Such a cutie with a great name!!
I can’t wait to see the posts about your home. Thanks for taking the time to do that – it’s so fun to see the step by step process behind the designs!

  44. A million congratulations to you. This is such a wonderful, happy and exhausting time:) We celebrated our first Christmas with our first little one yesterday too, so much better than any other one. I just came across your blog today, it’s great, my best wishes to you and your new little family!

  45. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Handersons! :)

  46. Charter

Don’t stop blogging, Emily. I read! I love! I am inspired!

  47. Kyndell

Hi Emily! First,I want to say Congratulations!! Charlie is adorable!! And the house is looking amazing! I only found out about you through a Land of Nod catalog several months ago. (I love HGTV but never get to watch it much-I have 3 kids!) That led me to check out your blog and now I must ask…will you be my best friend? You’ve really inspired me not just with decorating my home but in all areas of my life! I love decorating and I finally found someone who shares my aesthetic. You are so down to earth and it’s so refreshing!!!! The bad news is that I want to totally redo my house now. EVERY ROOM. Okay, I’ve said my piece. Happy New Year Emily! Hope it’s the best one yet!

  48. Jayne

Happy holidays to you and your family! I LOVE reading your blog and can’t wait to see what is in store for 2014:)

  49. Erin

Good luck with your resolutions. Being a new Mom is both the most amazing and most overwhelming feeling in the world. My twin boys are 15 months and I’m still wondering “when did this happen?!?”. I think having a day that is just for family is a great idea and an even better idea is giving each other a night. My hubby and I try to give each other at least three hours per weekend day. I tend to take the mornings through first nap and he takes the middle of the day from first nap to second nap and then we wrap up the day together. Although sometimes we cheat because we miss each other or the boys it is a great refresher.

  50. Susan Gallardo

Just wanted you to know I just found you blog (via Pinterest somehow) and am back-reading them all. (I am currently at August 2012) I first heard about you when you were competing in Design Star. You were my favorite for 2 reasons: you were from Oregon (I live there) and you seemed so friendly & nice (& still do in your blog posts). So glad you won!! Anyway just wanted you to know I love reading your blogs & get great info & inspiration from them. Your blog is the first one I’ve signed up to receive via email. A first for me!
I also wanted to say Congratulations on Charlie’s safe arrival & I love hearing & seeing pictures of your beautiful little family.
