Episode 2, pre-cap

I hope you are ready to meet the cutest family ever tomorrow night on episode 2.  Yes i am biased because it was an effing fantastic week and i have a lot in common with them, but these guys are kinda amazing.  By the second week already a bunch of kinks were out, and things went a lot more smoothly.  Although there was a wallpaper disaster (HIRE THE BEST WALLPAPERER EVER, I PROMISE YOU’LL REGRET ANYTHING LESS THAN PERFECT) that you won’t see, but i’ll tell you about next week.

Here’s their mood board that i made before i started shopping, basically its based on my initial meeting with them where we go through magazines and they point to what they love and what they hate.  I’ll post those pics next week.

And here is what their place looked like before:

Whats it gonna look like people?  Any guesses?  Tune in tomorrow night (6pm, 9pm, midnight) and of course behind the scenes all next week.

  1. Is it a global/mcm mash-up? I cannot wait!

  2. Can't wait! Looks like there will be some great pattern mixing. Something that I always strive to do better.
Anyways, one little suggestion on an already awesome show: I wish they wouldn't show both rooms at the beginning of the show. Even if they are quick glimpses it seems like it gives it away to soon. I like to be surprised!

  3. akemi

Aaaaaggggghh!!!! Eyes bleeding from too much awesome! Heart exploding with envy! This episode is gonna be fantastic!

  4. misa

the chair in that mood board is soooooooo gorgeous. is it from a flea market?

  5. allison

i love that you give us so much insight into your design process and the show's production. can't wait to tune in tomorrow – keep up the awesome work!

  6. Well the only thing I know for sure is that the sofa won't be where it is any longer!! What a blank room, I will be excited to see what you do with it.

  7. whisterpotpie

The little girl looks to be worth keeping. I hope she stays.

  8. Kai

So excited, Emily! I'm especially relieved to see that it is a pretty boring/normal space – the special and episode 1 were both fantastic architecturally. I don't feel like those houses need your help half as much as something blah to begin with.

  9. Emily, you are such a rock star. You are what makes HGTV worth watching. Hell they should call it Emily TV. When you reach mega, mega, mega star status, plz don't forget us. And don't let the haters throw you off course, cuz girl you got tigah blood!

  10. I like the pieces in the mood board… looking forward to seeing the final results!

  11. Niki

I just wanted to come out of blog stalking to tell you how much I love your show so far…and of course, have been loving your blog for some time now! Can't wait to see the new episode…yours is the best design show on television!

  12. Oooh, yummy! Mid-Century Salvage? Such a cool mix, and I'm sooooo in love with that lamp! Lots of white for a house full of kids, though. (Or a sloppy girl who loves to eat salsa while she watches Secrets from a Stylist, lol)

  13. Paige

Where did you get that credenza for $200????

  14. Katie

where did you find the large off white rug in the first room? loved the room btw!!!

  15. Maegan

Your new show is great! I have a major girl crush going on :)

  16. kj

You are lovely. Watching your show makes me wish you could be my best friend; you're adorable, hilarious and talented. Also, unlike most home makeover shows currently on air, you never come off as "prescribed." Your quirky humor and detailed design work feel fresh and engaging. [I loved the fun fact about Hamilton and the 100+100=200] Also, this blog is amazing. It actually SUPPLEMENTS the show rather than replacing it. I really appreciate that you use it to answer the questions I might have had from the episode (like the pricing on the reupholstered sofa), amend errata, and offer further insight. Only request (which it looks like this episode might fulfill) a lot of the transformations we've seen thus far seem tailored towards people who have lots of money (and the money to hire a stylist if need be). One of the best parts of the episode with Ian was that I could see how you found new homes for pieces he already had (like the sofa in the "den"). Would you conceive of doing a show with a budget-friendly eye? Is that possible? A style makeover that doesn't thousands? Sorry this was so long. I love your show. Stay adorbs. <3

  17. Becky

Loved the show :) You're a great host. Go Ducks!

  18. Ann

wonderful show- that was a hard one.
I loved the wallpaper. I admire how you chose the chairs and put together that area. The dining room looked especially good in the second version. Great colors in the walls and the sofa. was seamless looking but must have been hard
to put together. Didn't looked too contrived.
    Great job…

  19. I think this was your best room yet. I loved both looks so much that I'm not deleting from the DVR until I can rewatch.
That couch is beyond all kinds of awesome.

Why your show gotta be so good?

  20. I want to know how much the kiln rug was? The price was not shown on the show.
AND..I LOVE your style but really do not like the "two options" format of the show.

I record the show and fast forward to the final option.

  21. The off white chevron rug was from West Elm. I, very luckily, was able to get a display model of the same in Charcoal for just $29.99.

  22. Jen

Loved it! Seriously cute. This is similar to my living room and dining room except there is a little 60's and 70's mixed in. The highlights were the sofa, wallpaper and kilim rug. But really I loved it all. Might I also add your are the most stylish dresser on any design tv show. I've noticed a lot of designers/decorators lack personal style which kinda baffles me. You're a cutie pie and you're doing a great job. I'm guessing we'll see you looking more and more comfy as the host of your own show as the season progresses. But I'm hooked regardless. Just like Colin Firth told Bridget, I like you just the way you are. I've had that line stuck in my head for the past week so I'm excited to use it. :p

  23. amyks

Just watched your second episode, Wow, Wow, Wow! Loved everything about both versions, that wallpaper was gorgeous. I am also thinking their "design style" also fits my husband and me, so you just helped me figure out how to add the finishing touches to our "parlor/living room" (since I don't think you will be hitting the east coast anytime soon) . Thank you from Boston!!

  24. Lynda

Another great Re-Style & Mix Emily! I'm enjoying your show – mostly because you are explaining to viewers the what, why and how behind the style you create for your clients. It takes more of a thought process to blend old and new than to just buy all new and start with a clean slate. I love the personality of the owners you showcase in their space. Congrats again on your DS win and wonderful opportuity with your show =)

    Lynda

  25. Corie

What an adorable family and what an amazing room! I'm dying over all the side chairs!

Also, I LOVE the gray paint that you used. Can you share the color? Thanks!

  26. JennieMicheline

Love, love, love your show — rooted for you from the beginning! I need to know where to find items like the teal sofa tufted with walnut back! Expensive??? Keep it up, girl! Great tips, too

  27. pixie

Watched it and loved it! I love your design / style personality test! I wish I could take it and figure out the h-e-double-hockey-sticks what my style is besides mish mash. lol. Keep up the great work I find so much inspiration in your blog and your show.
